OK stupid question. Why do they call it 616?

So now that all the #1's are out what does everyone think of the line as a whole. Were your expectations meet? Was this sucessfull from a writing stand point?

Just finished Captain Atom, as with all the books I have read just feels like an incomplete book. There was like no plot. I do realize I am reading a bunch of #1s. Just read Suicide Squad #1 looks really cool. Book read really fast left me wanting more.
