Re: Imperium #11 Discussion
I don't know if it is my faulty perception, but I do think more could be done to push Imperium. As I say it may be my faulty perception, and maybe they do push everything equally, but it seems Kindt books frequently get a push, as do any launches which often coincide with a new writer in the VEI fo...

Re: Wrath of The Eternal Warrior #2
I found it meandering because VDitti did it for two straight issues. No problem with fleshing out Gilad's background. I was ok with issue 1. I am ok with issue 2. But put the two together, it becomes meandering. Among VEI writers, FVL was the master of pacing. In Ivar, Timewalker, for example, he ha...

Re: Wrath of The Eternal Warrior #2
The creators are doing something new with this series, both in terms of content and style, and it seems like some folks are doomsaying it 2 issues in. Give 'em a chance! I like what I've read so far because it isn't the same old, same old action character in action scene after scene. I appreciate t...

It's like they are making an Einser-bait comic, but only Raul Allen is delivering.

Re: Ivar, Timewalker #12 Discussion
Thank you, FVL. On another note, my comic book shop for the last 2 decades is closing on Monday. With my favorite series, Ivar, also ending, I am finally ending my regular comic book collecting hobby. It's a good time to leave. Maybe I would check a TPB in the bookstore from time to time. Thanks, VE...

Nothing A&A or FVL- related. Bummer.

Re: Put VALIANT On Billboard!
Yeah, can definitely hear those influences in the guitar. Good work, man. It's refreshing to hear metal done in the classic way (without sounding dated). The djenty stuff gets tirimg after a while, the only band I follow that use djent elements is Haken.

Because the Big 2 do not care about the Harveys. They know that the battle is in the Eisners.

Re: Put VALIANT On Billboard!
Just finished my second full album listen. Wow, this is much better than the comics. The songs are strong. I just wish that there was an epic closer. Then again, you ended with End Times, so I guess you do not really have that much epic material for an ending. Hahaha My favorite is Can't Go Back. Mu...

Re: How does this happen?
The problem with the Harveys is that the nominations are purely ballot stuffing. As long as you are a comic book professional, you can nominate and the final nominations are purely based on numbers. It is only in the final awards that any sort of quality control is done.

A lot of the guitar work in Can't Go Back sounds Criss Oliva-inspired. When I heard the Savatage-like riffs, I smiled.

And Clayton Crain does not know how to tell a story. If VEI pushed for Pere Perez or Clayton Henry instead, they could have a fighting chance against Fiona.

Re: The 4-issue arc
Just tell a damn story. Just tell it well and keep me interested from month-to month. Totally with you on this one. Like I said before, I don't care if a particular arc takes a single issue to resolve or 100 - as long as it keeps me entertained along the way, make an arc as long as it needs to be. ...

Re: Ivar, Timewalker #9 Discussion
So who's saying that VEI constrains writers to think in four-issue arcs? :P Don't look now, but it looks like LoTG would also be FVL telling the origin of the Eternal Warrior. I would just like to add that after the letdown of his Unity arc, I'm happy to see Pere Perez back in top form. He and FVL r...

Isn't that what the better-written VEI books are doing?agent_graves wrote:+1leonmallett wrote:I'd prefer a mixture, single issue and multi-issue stories, or even the approach of stories in an issue which have a beginning, middle and end, yet form part of a wider arc in terms of sub-plots.

It depends whether Neela traveled through time by using negative energy or by jumping through a time arc. If the former, she is messing up history. If the second, she is not.

Re: The 4-issue arc
It only gets confusing when it is a series of minis that run parallel to each other.
However, if you clearly indicate series markers like Joe Casey's Wildcats, it should not be a problem.

Re: The 4-issue arc
What's with the obsession with the number? Comic book old-timers are the only ones obsessed with this, and it begs to be asked why? Is it too much to ask for writers to write stories in bite-sized arcs between 4 to 6 issues so that comic book companies can expand more their reach to bookstores rathe...

This should have been Ivar Timewalker #0. :) I'd like to see that be about his time in the continua prison. But that would not be an origin issue because his imprisonment in the continua is near the end of his life. Continua prison -> Far Faraway -> Bar crawl -> Ivar's first two arcs -> death. But ...
