Re: Favorite Valiant Covers From The Relaunch

Harbinger 1 cover by Arturo Lozzi is the most iconic, I even had David Lapham do a version of it.
Harbinger 5 cover by Mico Suayan is my second favorite, again, I managed to get Lapham do a version of it.
Archer & Armstrong 6 cover by Emanuela Lupacchino. I liked it so much bought the inked version ...

I went for both X-O and Magnus pieces as well but once it went above $1000 each, it was sky rocketing.

Re: Why are you under whelmed by Shadowman?

Shadowman # 0 was very good. Could be a game changer from a feel and atmosphere of the book.

Shadowman 1 - 4 were borderline boring. From 5 onwards, there is improvement, number 0 being the best of the bunch so far.

Not necessarily. Just fire the current creative team. All of them.

And let somebody do a Swamp Thing # 21 on the series.

This is one book that needs a change right now.

Re: Shooter's long-term plans for Valiant

Very interesting question. I am also not clear about Shooter's intentions post Rai # 0. Also that issue was severely doctored as well.

Master Darque, Bloodshot, Ivar...I am looking at new key intros immediately post Shooter and have no idea what his intentions were (or contributions)

Re: Why don't you like Shadowman?

I think the feel of the book should be a gritty, noir, crimefighter with supernatural/dark magic/voodoo overtones.

Like Batman but with magic not gadgets.

Well put. And Twist was pretty much the exact opposite of that. Twist would be a little goofy even in a&A, I'm not sure what they were ...

BIRTHQUAKE

Birthquake: Death or Improvement?

Birthquake is dated July 1995. Acclaim bought Valiant in April 1994.

Arguably there is not a GREAT title in Valiant canon from beginning of 1994. I think they were too focused on selling the company by that point. There are however some remaining GOOD titles, such ...

Re: Why are you under whelmed by Shadowman?

Overall, I think Shadowman sort of lacked some of the originality I saw in the other VEI titles. It felt like a superhero title I could find at either of the big two.

I think that hits the nail on the head. Uninspired. Though, great art. I mean, if you put this up against Harbinger, there's no ...

Re: Why are you under whelmed by Shadowman?

the problem is less to do with art, more to do with the story. This is one title in VE that needs a new writer, asap.

I looked at the track record of Justin Jordan. He hasn't written anything of any significance before joining Valiant. And he is continuing that trend.

They must find a better ...

Re: Why are you under whelmed by Shadowman?

The reason the current Shadowman is underwhelming so far is because it is much closer to the Acclaim version than the Valiant version.

If you look at the original Valiant series, the title hit its stride with the Shadowman # 8 - 12 epic. (Still remains the best Shadowman storyline in my opinion ...

Re: The 1990s comic book fan confessional

The 90's were still better than the 2000's as far as comics go, in my opinion. Aside from Crossgen and a few DC titles I felt the 2000's were nothing more than cheap tricks by Marvel and DC to get people to buy more comics due to events and mega-crossovers which I despise more than the variant ...

Re: The 1990s comic book fan confessional

What puzzles me the most is, industry people talk about an implosion, speculators moving out etc about the mid to late 1990's but the fact of the matter is, the product in the market was horrendous.

The only argument could be, even the horrible stuff was selling like bucketloads in early 1990s ...

Re: The 1990s comic book fan confessional

Well, I would divide 90's into 2 camps.

Between 1990 - 1993, there is a lot of excellent work in the market.

DC firing on all cyclinders with Superman/Batman/Green Lantern/Green Arrow/Wonder Woman storylines which I was fond of.

Marvel firing even harder with X-Men, X-Force, Spider-Man, Ghost ...

Re: new valiant vs old valiant

I can't recall a bad pre-Unity Valiant book. Most were great, some were good.

I thought Magnus, X-O, Harbinger, Rai were GREAT. Solar was good. (Alpha & Omega is GREAT). Shadowman was half cooked and really found its voice under Bob Hall.

So Spider-Aliens weren't stupid, sorry.

Having said that ...

I am the proud owner of the cover. My favourite A&A cover of the new launch so far.

Been buying a few more pages from Ema lately as well.
