In the original the left arm style was almost entirely decorational, as an homage to his tribal armor when he was "Gilad the One." The only time it was ever functional was when they gave him the blue onesie and the arm decoration hd the ability to turn in to a metal whip.

I completely agree, I love his new look. He just looked silly in A&A with that onesie pajama getup. Granted, A&A IS silly and fun.
