Re: I'm out.....

Some people encounter a sense of burn-out in any particular hobby or medium that they've invested some time and money in. I had my long divorce from Comics at the start of the New 52 with DC and the Bendisification of the Marvel titles some years back and the only title I was pulling monthly was IDW...

Re: The Diversity Discussion- Pandering or Legit Representat

If this post is too political, please inform the Admins to take it down.

But with the tragedy that occurred in Orlando and the out pour of emotions both positive and negative, is legit representation more important than ever in the face of Homophobia, Islamophobia...etc...etc.

Re: Difference between TPB & HC - The Valiant & Divinity?

Well not sure about Divinity but my Hardcover edition of The Valiant has several pages of early pencil work and designs, early/post-editing scripts for the artist, some related 1-page short stories and short interview questions with Matt Kindt, Jeff Lemire and Paolo Rivera. I collect Valiant Deluxe ...

That would require a seminal title like Kingdom Come, Justice or Marvels which isn't in continuity. So unfortunately VEI might not have much for him unless its just cover art. I'd love to be wrong though.

5 Talents you want to see work on Valiant Projects

What it says in the title. Exclusive contracts be damned: Artists 1) Sean Chen. Great signature Valiant artist...whose Valiant work I will admit to never have seen. I fell in love with his gritty art style in Marvel's Nova ongoing some years back. With his history with the company, I think a comebac...

Artist Bernard Chang ("Chang" is a Chinese name) There is a "Dong Fang" (NOTE: not Fong) Hotel in Guangzhou, China (aka the south...) "Dong" is also the name for Vietnamese currency (e.g. I paid her in Dong...). It's abriviated VND. "Hwan" is a Korean name (n...

I'm glad all the responses in this thread have been very civil and positive. I was actually pretty worried I was treading on sensitive ground with this issue and that the discussion could turn ugly.

Re: The Diversity Discussion- Pandering or Legit Representat

There are (and should be) heroes all over the world. I've served in military operations with many coalition nations, and never focused on their diversity really. It was more a slight variant of culture at times, yes, but the core factors that make a warrior heroic and great are the same for all man...

... but they probably could be mindful about having more gay and lesbian representation in the universe. The problem is that you have to go out of your way to do it, and if not done in a manner that seem like a natural fit in the story it comes off as pandering. Maybe its a matter of timing. DC and...

Re: The Diversity Discussion- Pandering or Legit Representat

Interesting question. I dislike 'forced' diversity as feels like there's a political agenda in place. Forced is when a character is 'made' ethnic (eg Nick Fury) or an ethnic version is created (Spider-man, Green Lantern etc). There seems to be some hypocrisy in place when left wing observers critic...

Re: The Diversity Discussion- Pandering or Legit Representat

Good call...or Amadeus Cho as the Hulk Which bothers me only slightly because Amadeus as a character is pretty awesome by himself. He's the modern Rick Jones, perpetual sidekick to heroes like the Hulk or Hercules. And I agree on forced diversity being what kind of kills interest in a character but...

The Diversity Discussion- Pandering or Legit Representation

So I'm sure we've all been here before at some point. We're comic book readers. We grew up traditional on square-jawed heterosexual white male main characters for the better part of 60 years when the comic medium really struck a chord with the masses. It's come up in so many weird conversations I've...

As my Valiant Collection has been exclusively Deluxe Hardcovers I am curious as to the gap between the end of a series and publishing of a hardcover collected edition. I've been eyeing Imperium really hard and and am really holding out for a release date for the Deluxe Edition.

Re: Worried that Disney will sue Valiant for lightsabers?

Probably not. A "laser" sword in many forms and fashions have existed in media long before and after Star Wars. The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise has "beam sabers" which are pretty much giant robot sized light sabers. Kamen Rider Black RX (Or Masked Rider as he was infamously call...

Re: WHAT IS VALIANT COMICS?

Does anyone remember how comics got hyped back in the day (to which I mean early/mid-90s). Answer is simple: Saturday Morning Cartoons. Batman The Animated Series, the 90s Spider-Man cartoon, the Jim Lee-styled X-Men cartoon, Justice League... Heck even Wildcats and The Savage Dragon got some hype ...

Re: The Valiant on Amazon, perfect score!

I'd pick The Valiant just for Paolo Rivera's artwork and the colors. I don't pick up Valiant singles yet because I'm doing a lot of catch-up reading at the moment and the Deluxe Hardcovers are pretty good value propositions and I also like the presentation. Maybe one bad(?) point is repeat content. ...

I am a serial hoarder unfortunately. If it looks cool to me or if I want to try it out, I go out and get it. My collections are as follows: - Comics (Marvel, DC, Valiant, IDW...you name it. In singles, trades or hardcovers) - Magic the Gathering (Cardboard crack, picked it up when I was in the Army ...
