Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
I disagree. I don't think this is all off-the-shelf store stock. Primarily because _nobody_ kept back 50+ copies each of X-O 1 or Shadowman 1 during that time period. Yes - the Shadowman 8s, X-Force 1s, Rai 0s, and others look like they're uncirculated (in bags of 10), but the Harbinger 1s, Solar 1-...

Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
Yeah - that occurred to me as well. I also find it _really_ improbable that _none_ of the Harbinger 1-6 books have coupons. Because nobody would go out of their way to collect a whole bunch like that. Which also explains the Harbinger 1 bids. I'd be willing to bet a strong percentage of the Harbinge...

Re: huge bulk lots of vh1
I discovered these listings last night and was fascinated. Really puts things in perspective given that I was actively collecting in 1991-1993. And I bought 30+ NM Shadowman # 1s in a lot via eBay before, but it's been a long time since I've seen someone offering 50+ copies of XO # 1 in one go. So m...

Re: Gold Key Magnus set complete!
@NycJadie - no worries!
Curious about the VH1 foreigns.
I had a full run of the Italian X-O issues at one point, but I never found the Italian (?) version of Magnus 0.
Are there other VH1 foreigns?
I may need to get back into collecting these.

Re: Gold Key Magnus set complete!
Thanks! And hey - 9.0s an up are not easy. Particularly that 9.4 # 28. Are you scoates on the registry? If so, I love your VH1 Rai set! (I am, after all, Rai-fan). And, I wasn't thinking about this, but I did inventory my closet full of Magnus books today. Be happy to sell you some undercopies if yo...

Gold Key Magnus set complete!
Howdy, folks. I started collecting Valiant with Unity 0 when I was 14. Today my VH1 set is short 16 books. But I'm happy to say that, as of this week (after 5 years of hunting), my Gold Key Magnus set of 1-46 is finally complete in CGC 9.0 or better (average 9.6). You can see all of the books in my ...

Re: CGC Boards Valiant Discussion
Prior to the announcement last week, Harbinger 1 in 9.6 went regularly for $75-$78 at true auction, with 6-7 copies sitting for months at $99 buy-it-nows. 9.8s were at $325 buy-it-nows (x4-5).
All gone now.

WTB: GK Magnus # 33, 43
I know these aren't technically Valiant, but I'm looking for a few strict NM 1970s Gold Key Magnus books.
# 33 (9.4+)
# 37 (9.4+)
# 43 (9.2+)
# 45 (9.4+)
Trying to finish off by uber high-grade Magnus set.
Also, paying top dollar for CGC 9.6 or 9.8 books from the series (# 1-46)
Please PM me.

Re: Valiant Completionists..When Is your Collection Complete
When I've finished VH1, including all variants. I'm now missing 20 of them -- 19 golds/incentives, and one regular issue. Note that I don't care about the trade paperbacks, desiring only: Solar: Alpha & Omega Predator v. Magnus and the Diamond Unity trades Separately, because of my love of VH1, ...

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
They already did a Shadowman movie. It was called "Bones" and starred Snoop Dogg.

Re: Turok #2....
Well--the one other memorable thing about Steel Magnolias is that each of the main characters has a slightly diff. southern accent. So it's useful for aspiring actors to watch to hear the differences in a Georgia vs. North Carolina vs. Alabama accent, etc. Only film I can remember that has that leve...

Re: Turok #2....
Julia Roberts was just 21 when they filmed Pretty Woman. It's a solid flick and holds up. But it's not "must watch to understand women" like say...Dirty Dancing is. I almost got lynched while watching Steel Magnolias with a group of girls back in college. It started out as a comedy and I f...

Re: Magnus Robot Fighter #1 cover on eBay
Yeah - I'm almost tempted to bid on this, just to say I had a piece of the line (and to add to my world class Magnus collection), but it's not that it's a Dynamite cover. It's that it's a **SQUEE** Magnus cover. There are at least three solid Magnus 1 covers among the many variants, but this ain't o...

Re: Turok # 1 discussion
Apologies--I basically left these boards and was totally out of new comics for most of the last decade. Had no idea the bad blood here with Dynamite. But the fact remains, I grew up with VH1, circa 1992-94. I probably read more of the Acclaim titles than most here (for instance, I thought Troublemak...

Turok # 1 discussion
I just saw that Dynamite's Turok # 1 was released last week, and has gotten some seriously good reviews. Wondering what other folks here thought of it, and why it's not listed among last week's new releases. If this is a ValiantFans board, is it only going to cover the VEI releases? Given the amount...

Re: 5 available?
Turok 1 (FC 596) is not exactly rare, particularly for being from the mid-50s. Like Uncle Scrooge # 1, it's better to think of it as a legit 60s Silver Age book (a la Tales of Suspense 39) than a rarer 50s or GA one. So...I wouldn't be surprised if the person legit had five sets of 1-2 available in ...

Re: CGC 9.4 Dr. Solar #1 (1962) - $1,400+
Updating: SparkleCity auctioned another 9.4 (old label, Massachusetts pedigree) this week via eBay for under $1,100. :!: That was a steal. There's now 7 9.4s on the census vs. one 9.6. The pedigree is split out on GPA, but factoring in the four 9.4 sales over the past two years, true GPA average is ...

Likewise--I won't really believe in the forged Venom Black 'til I see one confirmed. Yeah--I understand how it could be done _theoretically_ (re. putting it in a microwave, etc.) but we haven't exactly seen a flood of those either.

Re: Timewalker VVSS (not mine)
Yeah--these issues always go for $75+. $150 seems high to me, but then, I bought mine for maybe $12 15 years ago.
Also, Timewalker gets a bad rap because it came out late in the Valiant cycle--post-Unity, post-hype, but I thought it was _really_ good, particularly issue 0.

Re: 1st Turok (1954) for $8K? Wow.
FYI--a newbie on the CGC boards just posted a CGC 9.0 Four Color 596, asking $2,200. With the 9.4 (highest) sale last year at $5,500, I don't think a 9.0 is worth even $2k, but one of you high rollers might want to take a shot. Any opinions on its value? I'm wary due to the census. In the last year ...

Re: Shadowman #3 original art
I thought even $1500-$1600 would have been a fair price for the piece. Pre-Unity or not, I don't see average non-key Lapham pieces going higher. Then again, the Bloodshot 7 cover went for $900--but that's a key cover, featuring the first cover appearance of a popular (and revived) character. This one...

Re: CGC 9.4 Predator vs Magnus trade
Again--this is beyond stupid because the entire reason to pay for CGC in the first place is essentially for hidden damage. If it looks like a 9.8 but gets a 9.4 because there's a huge crease running the length of page 19--guess what--it's a 9.4. Ditto with back cover damage vs. front cover damage--b...

Re: CGC 9.4 Predator vs Magnus trade
Yeah--the concept seems dumb, because eye appeal usually means "cover alone." Whole point of CGC for me is that it checks for resto and hidden (interior) defects that I can't readiy discern myself.
