It was Doctor Solar # 27 (the last Silver Age issue) in CGC 9.4.

I first learned who Shooter was through Valiant when I was 14.

And I first learned who Solar was from reading Valiant's Solar # 11 a few weeks before Unity 0 came out ...

I met him only once - at Comicfest '93 in Philly, which I believe was the official launch of Defiant with a Con-only Warriors of Plasm special. I went to his talk and was shocked at how tall he was ...

I'm pretty sure X-O Manowar # 15 pink came packaged with Ultra Pro comic book bags or boards - it definitely was a standalone and didn't come with Previews.

Also to add: the Armorines 0 standalone Fall Flings Preview Edition (non-gold). Have no idea how it was distributed, but I've always found it ...

I remember buying the first Valiant relaunch books back in 2012.

And I would have bet $1,000 - right then and there, that there was *no way* the new Valiant line would outlast (in years, let alone output) VH1.

Seriously - VH 1 lasted from what, 1991-1996 - but for ...

I'd add Predator vs. Magnus (Platinum) and
Unity # 0 (red) as well.

Since these are two of my personal favorites from VH1.

Chiming in with the chorus to agree this all just sounds...weird.

Solar # 1 peaked out at what? $35?

Still a lot for 1993, but not among the top 10 most valuable Valiants at the time...

I saw inker Joel Rubinstein at a convention a few months ago.

He told me he still has some of the pages from the unpublished issues - I'm pretty sure he'd be cooperative in art finishes and/or reprints if he were paid for his time.

Simple - 30 years of inflation.

$125 for a raw 9.4 Harbinger # 1 in 1993-1994 is worth more than $202 for a raw 9.4 in 2019.

Also - eBay grade inflation. Note that raw grade were "based on item description" -- and that the raw 9.4 prices nearly always outstripped the CGC prices for the same grade ...

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, but I'm interested in peak VH1 (pre-Unity) prices.

Suspect the peak was between June - December 1993.

(somewhere between the aftermath of Turok 1's release in Apr. and the release of Harbinger # 25 in Nov.).

I disagree on two points.

On the one hand, yes - VH1 can never come back - it was a specific product of its place and time, and I'm guessing most fans who were nostalgic for it are like me -- mid-teens at the time, but now into middle age.

CGC 9.4 Magnus #1 (1963) is a ridiculously awesome book. A holy grail for Silver Age Valiant precursors. :clap:

This January, 7 years to the month after I completed my Gold Key Magnus # 1-46 in minimum 9.0 or better...

I completed it in straight CGC 9.4 or better.

The original art cover to X-O Manowar # 4 (the Pre-Unity, BWS one) is up for sale in this month's Comiclink auction.

And the description basically refers to Valiant Comics in the past tense, noting:

Looking at the full list of folks involved in Unity shown in my Vol. 2 back inside cover, my best guess is it says "St. Pierre" - for Joe St. Pierre.

That last signature is likely Maria Becarri - the Valiant Wiki notes she was a colorist, primarily on Harbinger beginning with issue 5 -- and she also assisted with the cover art for Harbinger # 16-40.

And...you've got a lot more than just 4 sigs.

And specifically lusting after Eternal Warrior # 1.

But yeah - I never really liked Miller's Sin City period with the blockiness. Weird to think what I considered his "new" period as a teen is now 30 years old...

How did you get into these?

Are there any particular foreign language versions you've found more challenging than the others?

These are amazing!

I put together a full set of the Mexican (Domingos Allegres) Magnus reprints (# 1-28) a few years ago, but the average grade is maybe 3.0. Added some French and Turkish reprints as well.

But your Magnus books alone put mine to shame. And I've never seen the Solar or Turok books ...
