Re: Was everyone sleeping on this?

9.8 slabs may be the default for modern slab collecting but I'm surprised people would turn up their noses at a 9.6 of a book that is next to impossible to find raw never mind in grade. Check the census, there is only one 9.8 and 4 9.6s out of 14 books graded. Holding out for a 9.8 may be forever a...

Re: Was everyone sleeping on this?

I've nabbed some nice deals on Comic Link in the past as well. But that auction might've gone differently had it been a 9.8. Nothing wrong with a 9.6..... don't get me wrong, but I'm with Magnus on this one and I think a lot of collectors are too. I should add though that there are certain books and...

Re: CGC Spinner Rack

The only time I have seen a spinner rack was at a comic shop and they only kept low budge books on it. Was this something that stores had? In the 80’s and 90’s I used to buy comics off of racks or shelves in stores grocery stores, and don’t remember ever seeing one of these outside of an LCS. Spinn...

Re: What happened to the reasonable slab prices on eBay?

Hey I do what I can! But I'm not selling individual slabs for $15. I would rather use them for TV dinner trays or target practice. My bottom has historically been $45 shipped on eBay and ~$35 shipped off-eBay, but I have lowered that by about $10 recently. Really things are weak enough that I am af...

Magnus2009, his next move when it doesn't sell will be to remove the listing and take the time to message you to tell you that it sold, lmao!

Re: What happened to the reasonable slab prices on eBay?

Open bid options is the way to go. I collect Rosa ducks. Won 6 different slabs 9.8 recently from $16 a slab to $32. The 6 slabs totaled about $145. If I wanted buy the same books at fixed price it would have been $80 to $120 PER book. I rarely buy fixed priced slab auctions as I think some sellers ...

Re: What happened to the reasonable slab prices on eBay?

Things have been like that on eBay 9.8's for years now. The best thing you can do is wait for open bid auctions. There's a large eBay cohort that I think feed pricing off of each other. These are the guys that would reply to your offer saying that their price would beat the next lowest on the bay, b...

Re: If this is as good as it’s going to get then watcha gonna do? Take the poll!

Probably continue to pick single books here and there based on the characters I follow. Part of the appeal of the original Valiant for me was the continuity building. That's less appealing or non-existent here. It's entirely possible that at this point the only Valiant book I'd buy anymore is Rai, a...

Mile High's reaction: https://www.milehighcomics.com/newsletter/060520email.html /Magnus That's definitely a reaction letter more than anything analytical. Still, some interesting points there. Re: DC ends relationship with Diamond!

The comic market as we knew it died the minute people started calling them "floppies" as a pejorative when the industry was pushing a paradigm shift to trades. "Floppie" culture is like being shot in the stomach. It takes a long time to die, and the death throes are awful.

Re: CGC case question

For whatever consumer psychology that manifests, it seems to me that people gobble up new CGC cases more quickly than old ones. There's probably some narrative about how "they used to grade" or something that goes around, or the need for the "best and newest". I've seen big books come to market that...

One of the key things that made me a Valiant diehard was the continuity building that led to and followed Unity.

Timing is bad of course, with the pandemic and the self-isolating and all the shutdown/lockdown activity happening, etc. I’ve read the issue and I think it’s absolutely atrocious, and a disgraceful entry in the XO/Valia...

Re: Decision by publishers to suspend digital new releases...

I've always viewed the term "floppies" as a pejorative that came around during the "wait for the trade!" era of BS. When you correlate the term with that era that it started being used, it's pretty clear that was pejorative marketing so as to leave a small queue in the minds of collectors during tha...

Re: OTV/VCR - Bloodshot Movie Review

So I finally sat down to watch this - the launch of the Valiant U on film and I think this can be kept pretty short. It's not a bad movie at all. But there was no way this flick, even in a good movie-going economy, was going to launch a Universe on film. It lacks iconic archetypes completely. It's a...

If you can think of one that’s a substitute for getting a haircut at a barbershop I’ll be your first customer!
