Re: The Visitor #1 Discussion

Really helped me fall asleep last night. Boring, rambling dialogue with no hook at all. Competent but generic looking art. An all-around snoozefest with, as pointed out on the podcast, poor depictions of real reactions and responses.

Story again goes to terribleness and I'm completely done with the blue, red, or fire color scheme.

Lol! What a post to follow up the 'prune juice' post with

Man I hope that was intentional.

VH1 story chronology reading order

Years ago, I ran into this post claiming to be a "chronological list that shows in what continuity order to read VALIANT" that initially seemed to be decent, but quickly just turns into a publishing date order. So, as I read all of VH1 over the past 12-14 months, I tried to track the issues and map ...

(Re-)Reading Birthquake through The End (aka Years 4 & 5)

The time when Acclaim decided to become DC, then Image, and then gave up and let Giffen tear it all down. Magnus #49-64 – Birthquake was lost on Magnus. Saravia’s art is dreadful and Bedard’s story is just a retread. Combining Magnus, Rai, and the Psi-Lords into one book didn’t do it any favors eith...

Meanwhile, I think Ryp's style (even altered to be Darrow-esque here) is great for this book. But I'm also one who that Crain's art on the original run was unclear, static, and boring.

"Crow-flies! Attend me!" This was so bad. Zero payoff to the previous issues. Absolutely no reason for the tv director captions. I don't have any problem with getting her out there on her own. Hell, I even get that. This was just an incredibly clunky and headscratchingly convoluted way to do that. ...

Completely out of character versions of X-O and Capshaw, but, yeah, I guess having any connection was good.

The writing and art continue to be disconnected and the story is so slapdash it's hard to follow one page to the next.

Telepathic connection to blades? Can anyone offer up even a half-@$$ed explanation on how that's supposed to work? Not just blades, but all things that go stabbity-stabbity. Remember the hair? The poorly drawn hair that is a focal point of the character, so why did they pick an artist (who I like i...

The Burned is the first semblance of any real story in this series, confirming that #1 & 2 were complete time wasters. Booth's art is still fun, but a bit sloppier this issue. Was that a guy's head in one panel or an old box tv? Cause it was kind of impossible to tell.

Impossible to follow one page to the next. And then there are phrases like "telepathic network router" casually thrown in that completely pull you out of the story due to their pure stupidity. This book screams of being written by editorial committee more than a single writer.

Mirror Universe Medusa starts her own series with zero introduction or characterization. Just a generically written heist movie style plot. And while I am usually a Bachs fan, not on this issue.

As one of those completionists, I'm definitely not stopping now. Even when the titles are garbage reads like Livewire, Psi-Lords, and Roku, it's these type of books that become the hard to find and/or expensive issues down the road.

Swift, you don't include Secrets of the VU #3 as part of Year 3.5 It seems like it should be. I'm reading it tonight I seem to make folks here mad when I talk about A&A. For me, the Barry Windsor Smith stuff was good to great. Everything after #8 was unnecessary at best and horrible at worst. You c...
