Re: Rai (2019) #3

Meanwhile, while I really liked this, I found it to be the least engaging of the three issues. No real tension. Touched on some good stuff, just very low key. And still loving the art here.

Struggling with the idea that the VCR guys all gave this a slightly lower rating than Bloodshot #5.

Re: Bloodshot (2019) #5

Yeah, I'm really struggling with the lack of clarity when it comes to the story. Standard problem I have with Seeley though.

The convention scenes were fun (although seemed to be outdoors). And I dug the art a ton. Except for that knee early on.

Re: I'm curious. How many VEI readers have never read VH1 Un

Plot twist - how many VH1 readers have never read a VEI book? *raises hand* -slym That's incomprehensible. As much as I liked VH1 back in the day, I don't think it hold up quite as much in a re-read, and falls far short of the best of VEI. Completely disagree. Having just read/re-read them all, the...

Re: I Dislike Jack Boniface

Bob Hall’s Shadowman was really good. Loved it as a non-save-the-world, gritty, self contained series. My biggest disappointment with VEI is definitely Shadowman and Eternal Warrior. They took my 2 favorite V1 characters and messed them up. However, VEI also gave us great X-O and Harby series, so t...

Re: I Dislike Jack Boniface

I'm with you. I only recently read VH1 version and fell in love with the character. Everything since (currently reading Acclaim and have read all VEI versions) have fallen short of the original. For me, it's the constant focus on Deadside and what it all is and trying to make something so weird "rea...

Yeah, well...that's, like, your opinion, man! Seriously though, I can see that this run could be to your taste and some of it could be great to you . But to say that the art effectively told the story is patently ridiculous. On top of those, there are a lot of other issues that a lot of people disl...

Re: Livewire 5-8 were great

I LOVE "cartoony" art. I genuinely believe this was technically poor artwork, not a style preference. I think the facial expressions were terrible. The line work was unclear and didn't convey the story well at all. That hot mess of a splash page with the cop showing her badge is permanently burned ...

I saw that the "This Board Used to Be Cool" thread got deleted, but I'll reiterate what I wrote there: this is now a board for fans of a thing which is populated by people who are no longer fans of that thing. The fact that you still hang around after finding most of the last two years to be garbag...

Re: Livewire 5-8 were great

And I plowed through Livewire #9-12 just now as well. These to me are a perfect example of where the disconnect is happening with older fans. The art in this arc was not to my personal taste at all . Looking at the pages purely as static, visual art, without reading the story, I don't particularly ...

Re: Official Bloodshot Trailer is here!

Until the last 20 seconds I thought I was accidentally watching the first trailer again. My wife watched this one, knowing nothing of the property (even that it was a comic) and said, "It's a well done trailer, but you know what the entire movie is going to be. And that doesn't seem very good. Plus,...

Re: Is the 90s Nexus a dead universe?

I became a big Nexus fan during the dark horse days. There were a few spin off series so it definitely counts as a universe IMO. Fascinating. I didn't realize there were spinoffs. Can you name any? And I guess Magnus is in a way part of the Nexus Universe Next Nexus was a First Comics spinoff. Juda...

Re: Is the 90s Nexus a dead universe?

<snip> There is something special about 80s indy comics. My favourites are Grendel, Nexus and Dreadstar but there were a lot of good characters and books in that time. :thumb: completely agree...more people need to (re)read the First Comics lines...they would be pleasantly surprised Nexus got me st...

Re: Best VALIANT Series of 2019! (please choose 2-3)

I honestly didn't think Fallen World would receive so many votes. To be fair it was decent in a year when not much else was. If you put that book in any previous year then it doesn’t place second. Maybe. Maybe not. The other bit jumping out is that the three getting votes - LaDoTH, Fallen World/Rai...

Re: Zenescope

This thread is great. My LCS does order a few Zenescope books for certain customers who they acknowledge buy them solely for the covers. I picked up a few over the last couple years because Jay Anacleto did a few covers. I actually read them because I read all my comics. They were terrible. Stories ...

So don't take a current or solicited Marvel title and chop off the last two letters? Cause, really, wasn't it the financial situation that was the real downfall of Defiant?

Ninjak vs the Valiant Universe and Valiant High.

Not sure why Eternity wouldn't be. Britannia is as it was included in the most recent Valiant Handbook.

re: Q&W preview - You may not like the style and that is a-okay, but it is absolutely not Livewire level of amateur/unprofessional/unacceptable. There's a lot of skill showing in the preview. Not even 100% sure it's too my taste (and I dig cartoony art over photorealism), but it's good.

Re: Catalyst Prime (New CB Universe)

I'm reading it, although #3 was the only one I've enjoyed so far. The story in the first two issues was too disconnected and the delays and length of time between issues makes me forget any details. That or the big threat is just too generic, which I think is the real culprit here. It's not bad or a...

Really helped me fall asleep last night. Boring, rambling dialogue with no hook at all. Competent but generic looking art. An all-around snoozefest with, as pointed out on the podcast, poor depictions of real reactions and responses.
