Will there be a new Unity series?
The Unity run started off really well imo, I liked the Harada vs. XO concept of the first arc and dug the Silk 3 issue arc despite it feeling rushed towards the end there.
The AH tie-in could have been a great way to expand the team but was still ok (despite feeling a little 'light' in terms of content) and then the United arc which introduced Faith to the team was actually pretty good.
The threads seemed to be coming together before falling apart with the series of one-shot character focuses and the War Monger story-line with the past iterations of Unity - again these could have been good but just weren't.
At the end of the run I loved the return to AH for 2 issues by Fowler and thought #25 was surprisingly good.
Now we're seeing Unity pop up in a few ongoings / mini's without having a dedicated team book. I still think the concept can work and work well. Fingers crossed it comes back in some form down the track. I feel Valiant needs a superhero team (Harbinger: Renegade will go some ways to this but would not have the same character skill mix as a generic superhero team book).

I agree. Unity should definitely return. I just wish at least for now they'd release a volume 2 Deluxe edition of the original series. It's annoying having half of the series just in trades.

I hope so.
The first Unity run was, i felt, Valiant's best comic.

I felt it was lacklustre overall, they gave it a try but it didn't work out consistently enough. I reckon they should leave it in the past!

I enjoyed the entire run of Unity and would like to see it come back in some form. How about getting Joshua Dysart to write it this time around?

Unity had its moments. I'd like to see it re-appear from time to time as a four to six issue arc with a single, focused storyline for each.

Re: Will there be a new Unity series?
Unity is one of the titles I was really bummed to see go away. I had hopes this would be the Main VEI book for many years to come in the beginning, but as soon as they started ending series at #25, I felt kinda "cheated?"
I have about 20 copies (with a buttload of variants) of Unity #1s- that also kinda felt dumb from my part, in retrospective.
But Valiant marketed this book like nothing before it. It was going to be the superhero team book, where the main events of the Valiant universe would occur, for the most part.
"The one book you had to read, if you're getting into this universe", that sort of thing.
And let's not forget- Unity Red, people. Super hype. Do you remembah that?
Anyway, I DO hope they bring it back. Valiant needs its JLA/Avengers book. IMHO.

Re: Will there be a new Unity series?
I mostly agree with this view. I think it got off to a decent enough start and I seem to remember that the Armour Hunters tie-ins were pretty good, but the series really lost steam toward the end.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:I felt it was lacklustre overall, they gave it a try but it didn't work out consistently enough. I wouldn't be averse to the title returning, but this is a book that needs to do one of two things: it should stand alone to some degree so that it can go forward with a solid long-term gameplan, or it should be THE absolutely central book of the VU, which ties events in other titles together.
The kind of semi, light crossover that occurred in the book previously (except AH which was solidly integrated) never seemed to me like it really hit any targets that were presumably aimed for.
Not a bad title really I think, but if the book returns it's just gotta be with a solid gameplan.

Re: Will there be a new Unity series?
Going back to this - with the slew of titles announced for the remainder of the year (that we know of) still no superhero team book.
Unity would be a great platform for this (if written correctly).
One of the reasons I read The Avengers as a kid was to see who would pop up in a given issue, I loved the idea of a big rotating roster which gave lesser-knowns page time. I recently reread The Valiant and loved seeing Breaker make an appearance - a Valiant superhero team book could allow this to happen more frequently.
A roster with say Deathmate, Malgam, Capshaw, Divinity, Ank, Neela, Gn-Gr etc supported by some well known characters would be cool - noy necessarily those mentioned above would work well as a core team but seeming some form of combination thereof together would be cool.
It was forecast in Book of Death that there would be new iterations of Unity, wonder if it'll ever come to fruition?

This.
The best UNITY moments were ones that seemed to have real purpose, IMO, whether in the UNITY core title or outside of it; first Unity arc, Armor Hunters, The Valiant, Divinity, Bloodshot USA, etc.
I did really love the solo issues in the Homefront arc though. I liked the title a lot even if it didn't always come off quite well enough. It was a great place to get my monthly Gilad, Livewire, Ninjak and GN-GR fix. Hopefully when Gilad returns there will be another iteration. I want to see Beast Brigade Unity even if it's just a one-shot. And the Unity team with the Zygos twin and Quartz.

Would I purchase a new Unity series? Yes, but I'm not sure which Valiant book I'd be willing to lose to make room for it. I'm sure a new series will show up one day. I think it might be a while before that happens, though.

Yeah, as much as I want a team book from Valiant, I agree with you that its likely to be a long time before we see one.jeremycoe wrote:Would I purchase a new Unity series? Overall, I enjoyed the run, especially the solo, one and done's. The first arc was fire, and it stayed pretty consistent, I never touched #25 tho, the run ended at #24 for me. I feel like Unity should always be in rotation in some form or fashion, whether it's an ongoing or mini-series....

Re: Will there be a new Unity series?
Agreed. I'd love to see the title come back. Most of the key members are definitely busy elsewhere in the Valiant U at the moment, but that will change. It would also be a great platform for introducing more new Valiant characters too.agent_graves wrote:Overall, I enjoyed the run, especially the solo, one and done's. Re: Will there be a new Unity series?
Here's a thought, more of a brainstorm than anything.
With Joshua Dysart scheduled to make it back in the fold (once he is completed his end) and wrap up what he had left of Imperium, could he wrap up the ending of that book in something like a Unity style series? We do see that Alpha will probably make a serious showing here in HW2, could the ending of that war mix in with bringing Unity back together, finishing the fight of Alpha, Harada and Co?
Maybe it doesn't makes sense to do it that way, just trying to piece some of the puzzle pieces together...

Re: Will there be a new Unity series?
Sorry for the thread-Necro but since I'll be starting the series soon & I've been a fan of team books (like JLA & Avengers) I'd like it to come back, but focused on threats to big for just one hero or two heroes; yet not focused on universe wide crossovers. For serioussupernatural threats they pull up Tama, Punk Mambo, Shadowman & Dr. Mirage to deal with it; while if it was a more physical threat, they'd pull up, Bloodshot, Ninjak & others with such capabilities; but for earth shattering threats they pull the whole team together.

Re: Will there be a new Unity series?
I like the idea of Unity, but The Valiant and Book of Death (or even Rapture) are what I'd like to see more of. The events make it easier to jump on.
Avoid the JLA/Avengers and just bring them all together for the big events.
My three favorite Unity issues were the ones that dealt with the aftermath, focusing on Livewire, Gilad, and Ninjak. I appreciated this glimpse even though it broke off from the rest of the tone of the series. They felt like something I hadn't read before in comics...and that's why I'm here. It's not an alternative to DC or Marvel--it's different.
But i also think Kindt was probably the wrong guy for a team book. As much as I like a lot of his work, I can always tell when he's bored and tries to do something different.
I hope that Secret Weapons headed up by Livewire is the new alternative. I can see Ninjak joining up with them, and even a run in with Unity. Secret weapons vs. Unity the 2019 Event?
I liked the concept of DC's JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK more than the execution, l'd love to see a Deadside team once Shadowman reestablishes his footing.

Re: Will there be a new Unity series?
I'm wondering, with Alpha now present, would Valiant kill him off after HW2? Or maybe would THAT be the type of Unity book they would put together? Alpha has shown himself to be a bad-*SQUEE*, and his possibilities are endless. He could be the new bad guy, bringing Peter into the fold of Unity, with a touch of Harada (if he wanted to get involved). I see a book that could go on for quite some time here, and they may never even get a chance to kill him (Alpha). I could see a good deal of new characters (mostly bad guys) enter the fray here too.
