Mapping out VH1 here...

Post by IanAlexavier »

ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK the maps when you organize your project and let us know what you think :)

VH1 is in Black
Title Crossovers are in RED
VH2 and VH3 are in BLUE

Some title runs are small and may not be worth your cash to bind separately. You can combine titles or create flip books to save some cash. These titles include: Armorines, DeathMate, Geomance, PsiLords, & Visitor. Geomancer could be easily combined with Eternal Warrior Book2, Armonries with PsiLords (flipbook?) and Visitor with DeathMate (flipbook)... I know.. no one wants to be paired with DeathMate! LOL

Archer and Armstrong
Book 1: 0-25, EW 25, 26 , 26, Chaos Effect Omega
On A&A #8, you may want to pull the cover off and fold it so that it opens up as a centerfold at the beginning of the issue.
With Issues #26, you may want to cut the issue in half and place them in reading order.

Armorines
Book 1: 0,X-O 25,Hard Corps,17,18, 1,2,3,4,5, X-O 33, Hard Corps23 , 6-12, Armorines 1-4
Armorines #7: Wrap around cover needs to be adjusted for binding.

Bloodshot
Book 1:0-3, HardCorps 5, 4-15, Secret Weapons9, 16-18
Book 2:19-27, Secret weapons 20, 28, Secret weapons 21, 29-34
Book 3:35-51,Yearbook, Last Shot
Book 4:VH2 1-16

Chaos Effect
Chaos Effect Alpha
Shadowman 29
Second Life of Dr Mirage 11
Turok Dinosaur Hunter 16
Secrets of the Valiant Universe 2
Bloodshot 20
Secret Weapons 13
Ninjak 8
Archer & Armstrong/Eternal Warrior 26 (Cut and Flip)
Harbinger 34
Armorines 5
X-O Manowar 33
H.A.R.D. Corps 23
Solar Man of the Atom 38
Psi-Lords 3
Rai 26
Magnus Robot Fighter 41
Chaos Effect Omega
Chaos Effect Epilogue 1 & 2, although these books add nothing to the Chaos Effect story and are more about Magnus spending some time in the 1990's.

**Dont forget to splice and arrange A&A/EW #26...

Deathmate
Deathmate
Book 1: Deathmate Preview Green, Deathmate Preview Orange, Deathmate Preview Pink, Prologue, Black, Blue, Red, Yellow, Epilogue, Tourbook

Eternal Warrior
Book 1: Valiant Era Companion 1,1-16, Eternal Warrior Yearbook 1, 17-20
Book 2: 21-24, Archer & Armstrong 25,25-27 Eternal Warrior Yearbook 2, 28-40
Book 3: 41-50,Eternal Warrior Special 1 Eternal Warrior Fist and Steel 1-2 Eternal Warriors 1-6

or

Eternal Warrior/Geomancer
Book 1: Valiant Era Companion 1, EW 1-16, YB1, YB2, EW 17-20 (23 issues)
Book 2: EW 21-24, A&A 25, EW 25, EW 26/A&A 26, EW 27, Geo 1-2, F&S 1-2, Geo 3-8, EW 28-31 (23 issues)
Book 3: EW 32-35, EW:Wings, EW 36-50 (20 issues)
*Geo 1 has a wrap around cover to refold.
* With issues 26, cut in half, flip, and place in reading order.
*** Issue 36 has a page that must be added to issue 32. It will work, dont worry! LOL

Geomancer
Book 1: 1-8
** The cover to issue 1 is wrap around. You may want to fold the back cover to the front.
**DONT BIND THIS BY ITSELF! Its much too small. Possibilities: Do a flip bind with PsiLords, or place these issues in with Eternal Warrior book 2 bind.

HARD Corps
1-18, Harbinger 30, 19, Harbinger 31, 20-22, Armorines 4,5,X-O 33, 23-30

*Armorines #4: There is a lot of Armorines back story that is not needed. Pull only the pages that you need. This will lead up to HARD Corps #23 when both teams take off into space. Without these pages it creates a difficult transition without enough back-story.
*Armorines #5 is good all the way through.
*X-O 33: Again, pull out the pages that you need..

Harbinger
Book 1: 0-25
Book 2: 26-28, Secret weapons 6,7,8??,29-30,HardCorps 19, 31, Hard Corps 20, 32-41, H. Files 1-2, Acts of God
***(OPTIONAL) I placed Harbinger Files #1 at the front of Book 2 and then Harbinger Files #2 between #34 and #35. It happens during the Chaos Effect event. The dates line up for this to be the proper place.

Magnus Robot Fighter
Book 1: 0-11, PvsM:1,2,20(pre malev) YB, Nex/Mag 1-2, Mag/Pred 1-2(26)
Book 2: 21-41(up till chaos effect),
Book 3: 42-64.
Epilogues??

or

Book 1:YB1,0-15,Unity 0, 16, Unity1,17-20
Book 2: 21-29, RAI 15, 30, RAI 16, 31-37, RAI 22, 38-48
Book 3: 49-64, , Original Mag, Vintage Mag 1-4, Predator/Magnus 1,2, Magnus/Nexus 1,2.

Regarding Chaos Effect Epilogues #1 & #2: If you choose, to you may place them between Magnus 42 and 43.

or

Book 1 - Magnus Robot Fighter 0-20 (748 pages)
This also involves splitting up Magnus 5-8 and flipping the Rai sections so that the complete Invasion storyline reads correctly (there is one concern, the last page of Rai 1 has the last page of the Magnus story on its back side ... although the TPB might solve that problem! And I have scanned the page at 600 dpi and it will be available if anybody else wants to print it out.)

Book 2 - The Malev War (This is a BIG ONE! -- 1080 pages)
Magnus Robot Fighter 21 - 24
[Rai 0 opional] Rai and the Future Force(RFF) 9, [Bloodshot 4-5 optional],25, RFF 10 - 11, 26 - 29, RFF12-15, 30, RFF 16, 31, RFF 17, 32 - 33, RFF 18, 34, RFF19, 35, RFF 20, 36, RFF 21, 37, RFF 22 - 23, 38

Book 3 - The Rest of VH-1 Magnus (1060 pages)
Magnus Robot Fighter 39 - 40
Magnus Yearbook 1
Magnus Robot Fighter 41 - 42
Chaos Effect Epilogue 1 - 2
Magnus Robot Fighter 43 - 64

Book 4 - VH-2 and Crossovers (792 pages)
Magnus/Nexus 1 - 2
Predator vs Magnus 1 - 2 (This can also be placed between Magnus #11 and #12.
Magnus Robot Fighter v2 1 - 18

Ninjak
Book 1: 0,00 1-26, YB
**Issue 0 and 00 have covers that could be modified to open as a one picture. You may need to cut these covers off of the book if you wish to incorporate this into your bound book.
** Issue 21 has a wrap around cover.. flip back to front.

or

Book 1 - 736 pages
Ninjak 0, 00, 1-10, Yearbook 1, 11-17

Book 2 - 756 pages
Ninjak 18-26, Ninjak Vol 2 1-12

PSILords
Book 1: 1-7, Destroyer 0, 8-10, Valiant Vision
** The cover to issue 1 is wrap around. You may want to fold the back cover to the front.
** You may want to bind this WITH Geomancer. Combining these into one big book will save money and look much nicer.

Rai (and the Future Force)
Book 1: Secrets of The Valiant Universe #3? Magnus 5-8 As the flip books contain RAI 1-4 (cut in half and flipped)RAI 1-8, RAI 0, RAI Companion
Book 2: Rai 9-15, Magnus 30, 16, Magnus 31, 17-21, Magnus 37, 22-33

or

Book 1 (732 pages)
Magnus Robot Fighter 5 - 8
Rai 1 - 8
Rai Companion 1
Rai 0
Rai and the Future Force 9
Magnus Robot Fighter 25
Rai and the Future Force 10 - 14

Book 2 (972 pages)
RFF 15
Magnus Robot Fighter (MRF)30, 16, MRF 31, 17, MRF 32 - 33, 18, MRF 34, 19, MRF 35, 20, MRF 36, 21, MRF 37, 22 - 33

I thought about adding the N.I.O. miniseries, but that made the second volume unnecessaily large and N.I.O. is only peripherally related to Rai. I opted instead to add to a planned VH-2/VH-3 miscellany book.

Secrets of the Valiant Universe #3?? Should this go in here somewhere??

Second Life of Doctor Mirage
Book 1: 1-5,Shadowman 23, 6-10, Chaos Effect Alpha, 11, Chaos Effect Omega, 12-18

Secret Weapons
Book 1: 1-3,Bloodshot 11,4-12, Bloodshot 20, 13-19, Bloodshot 27, 20, Bloodshot 28, 21, Bloodshot 29 , Secret Weapons Fan Finished #22

** Issue 2 has a wrap around cover. Fold the back cover around to face the front
** Bloodshot 20 has a wrap around cover as well
**You may also want to include the Fan Finished Secret Weapons 22 at the end of this book.
**What about Harbinger 29 ~ it continues the storyline from Secret weapons issue 8. This is optional.

Shadowman
Book 1: 1-22, SLDM 5, 23
Book 2: 24-43, Shadowman 0, Shadowman Yearbook 1
Book 3: v2 1-20, v3 1-6

OR

Book 1: 1-3, Unity 0, 4-5, Unity 1, 6-22, YB 1
Book 2:0, SLDM 5, 23-28, CEA, 29,SVU 2, CEO, 30-36, X-O 42, 37-43

*** Where does Darque Passages, from the trade, go in the map???

Solar Man of the Atom
Book 1:
Solar Alpha and Omega 0
Solar Man of the Atom 1 - 11, Unity 0, 12, 13, Unity 1, 14-17, X-O 13, 18 - 23

Book 2:
Solar Man of the Atom 24, 25, Secret Weapons 2, 26 - 45

**Note: You may want to include a picture the A&O poster

Book 3:
Solar Man of the Atom 46 - 60, Destroyer 0 (This can go at the end or anytime after #39. It really fits in with PsiLords more than anything.)
*Acclaim (1997 series)* Man of the Atom 1
*Acclaim (1997 series)* Revelations 1
*Acclaim (1997 series)* Solar Hell on Earth 1 - 4

Timewalker
Book 1: Timewalker 0-5,A&A 10,11, Magnus 33, TW:Yearbook 1, Timewalker 6-15
Issues 0,1: you may want to pull the cover off and fold it so that it opens up as a centerfold at the beginning of the issue.
**Yearbook 1 also has a wrap around cover that will need to be folded over
*** This mapping needs to include the Chaos Effect storyline. Its talked about several times throughout the series.

Seems fine.

Same with Unity
I am doing issues 1-18, I am considering adding the lost chapter at the end but at this point i probabaly wont, as I didnt really like it.

Magnus is the tricky one to map
My original map was kind of goofy just going 25 books each.
Book 1:0-24
Book 2:25-49
Book 3:50-64, YB, Orig Mag, Vint Mag 1-4, Nex/Mag 1,2, Mag/Pred 1,2

Then I started to tinker
Book 1:0-20(pre malev) YB, Nex/Mag 1-2, Mag/Pred 1-2(26)
Book 2:21-41(up till chaos effect),
Book 3:42-64.

Now I am stuck because I am considering adding the Epilogues.

So thats my map which changes often.

I prefer Harbinger
0-25 (26 issues)
26-30,HardCorps 19,31,Hard Corps 20, 32-41, Files 1-2, A of G.(21 issues so slightly smaller but I think the best break possible.

What if you combine Rai & TFF with Magnus . . . there was a time there where you couldn't read one without the other . . .

yeah, from Rai 9-23 and Magnus 25-38, you pretty much had to read both series, as one issue led directly to another. Take the South AM storyline, for a good example. Two months, 4 issues and a real "serial" feeling. I liked some apsects of what VALIANT did with this, but I also think that while it was cool as heck to tie the books together, not to mention extremely logical and exciting, it is also part of why the books eventually fizzled. People didn't like having to buy both series and the immediate followup stories in Magnus were dreadful. Indeed, only the Geomancer Quest was any good, post-Malev. At least Rai had the training scenes, Bad Penny and what I reffer to with affection as "old man Rai". But, to keep this post more on task, I think that yes, you should put the Rai books in there. In fact, it might even be wiser to stop Magnus around 24 and have everything Rai from 9-23 or 24 and Magnus 25-38 or 29, combined. It's the way the stories originally flowed and how they should be read, imo.

This thread will come in very handy in the future to show me what I need to buy duplicates of to have complete stories in seperate books. Great idea IanAlexaiver!

Ill do my best to stay on top of the suggestions and add them in the first post.

This will give us a forum to discuss those mappign questions and bugs..

There are some runs that are easy to map and others are going to be a pain.

This will allow us to work together :)

I like the idea of adding books when its only a one or two issue shared story, but when the story is mixed for more than 2 or 3 issues Id like to keep them seperate. If not then your bound book really is two titles combined and it turns into some monster size books..

Im not at my collection right now.. does anyoen know if there are directions in those books to go to the other title for the next part of the story?

I like this because Im taking a completionist attitude. I want to include everything in print, not becasue I liek it or not. Of course there are some issues, storylines or characters that dont float my boat, but Ill just deal with them.

Steve, I had seen in the other thread and meant to ask about your Armorines book. You listed that you had 17 issues in it. I was wondering what 4 issues you added beyond #0-12? Their HARD Corps fight? The Chaos Effect crossover stuff near the end? Figured this thread was a good place to finally ask that question.

I included the Acclaim VH-2 Armorines mini-series.

I'm binding all of my Valiant/Acclaim books. So My Harbinger books includes the Acclaim Harbinger: Acts of God; Eternal Warrior includes the six Acclaim Eternal Warriors issues; I have a separate VH-2 Bloodshot volume; etc.

I was looking at my Armorines books...,

There are two spots where Armorines and XO cross-over. Im going to take a closer look and see if these two XO books should be added to the Armorines list...

If I did ad them, the list would look like this:

0, XO 25,1,2,3,4,5, XO33,6,7,8,9,10,11,12

Id like all of your input as well..

I agree. I just recently purchased the rai crossovers for the Maleve war. I think it makes it for a smoother read when putting together a bound set.

I like where you are going with that. What about expanding it a bit further for completions sake though? How about this:

0, XO 25, HARD Corps 17, HC 18, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, XO 33, HC 23, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

I'm thinking that would be the definitive Armorines collection. (Not counting the VH2 stuff myself. Not interested in it.) What do the rest of you think? Of course then we would need a couple more copies of those issues for a Chaos Effect book as well...

So what would the ideal reading map be for the Maleev War
Magnus 21-24, Rai 9, MAgnus 25, Rai 10?
