Valiant Parodies

Post by ian_house »

I was just browsing the board and noticed the discussion on the X-O Manowar rings which lead me to the Miscelaneous items page where I found the parody comics

http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/va ... asp?id=300

has anyone read/got these? If so are they funny at all or just cheap *SQUEE*?

PS. I've been away for a while and all the news on the relaunch is exciting the hell out of me!!!!

I have both Bloodshot parodies.

BLOODYHOT was more of a true parody.

BLOODSKIRT was less a parody of Bloodshot than Godzilla movies, I'd have to say. But it did come with a trading card.

I have a few of 'em and consider them a novelty
(but a must have for anal completists!). :P
I see them as testament, if you will, as to the impact Valiant had at the time.
You are not famous till you've been parodied.
While the covers are a bit amusing they are cheaply done, amateurish and dull IMO.

Malibu had some nasty VALIANT words in that issue.

The BLOODYHOT cover, I thought, was well done, given the much smaller print budget. I interviewed the writer & publisher of that one and it's on my site. Ditto my interview with the penciller of BLOODSKIRT.

I have XO Cow a war.

It's bagged with some special card. I think it is even numbered like out of 500.

There is a pic of it somewhere on the board. :?

Psst... OX Cow-o-War

I picked up a large lot of Spoof comics some time ago and it was in there. OX even appears in Imp-Unity (Gender is not absolute).

I think Valiant made an "appearance" in a Darker Images issue.

They also cameo in Wyrd I believe. :thumb:

Is there a full list of the "limited" parody books? I have the Bloodyskirt limited books (signed and with trading card as pictured below) and Elveen mentioned there's a OX Cow-o-war book w/ trading card limited to 500. Are there other limited ones out there?

Interesting that you bring that up. I have a list that I have been working on. I keep meaning to post it in the DU section. There were two major spoof comic companies. At my fingertips, the Valiant-related issues were (and this is most definitely not a complete list):

Spoof Comics

Spoof Comics Presents 0 (Imp-Unity) [this was an ongoing series, only issue 0 was Valiant related, the remaining issues are one-shots]
Spoof Comics Presents Bloodskirt
Spoof Comics Presents Deathmitt (could this be better than Deathmate?)
Spoof Comics Presents O-X Cow-o-War
Spoof Comics Presents Soft Corps (there was also a limited signed version)

Parody Press

Bloodyhot 1
Headbanger 1
Magnets Robot Dismantler 1 Deluxe Edition (regular edition may not exist?)

Spoof Comics was particularly fond of putting out limited edition books that were limited in different ways - they would have versions that came with cards and different versions that came with premium cards and they would have limited runs of autographed books - sometimes they would offer multiple autographs - not that the books were signed by more than one creator but rather there would be different versions signed by a single creator. I doubt that a complete list of these will ever be compiled.
