Own a complete vh1 run?

Post by DawgPhan »

Well ran this poll a while back when the board was first rebooted and I think that there was less than 100 members. Well since we have seen a recent jump in membership and we are over the 200 mark I thought that I would ask again...All right lets see..I define regular issues the same way that greg does. Simple question..Do you have all 703 of them in your collection? Yes or No...and not...I plan on having a complete set so I will vote yes...I want to know how many full runs are out there...I think that there are like 19 or so in the inventory...also I wanted to ask again before Knight_333 got his set complete  ..thanks for playing....

I am a few copies out from having a complete run of all valiant comics including premium, special, super duper, gold, platinum and titanium issues. But I voted NO to be honest.

Well if you have a complete set of the regular issues you could have voted Yes. I am really just wondering about the number of complete sets(regular issues) out there...This comes from a thread right after the reboot where someone said that most of the people on this board probably had a complete set...I did not think so..So I started a poll..I think that it came out fairly close though...maybe I will look it up...just for reference though...I would like to get an updated poll...also I think that there are now 20 complete sets in the inventory(including the Black Diamond collection which may or may not stay together) Also there have been about 15 new collections added to the inventory page since around christmas or so...greg do you know how many new collections this year?

previous poll went 17 people had a complete set to 22 without a complete set...pretty close outta just under 40 votes...and I think that this board had about 100 people when it ended...

Still need a couple of those. LOL Those are the hold up, not the golds, platinums, VVSS. One red is hard to come by, but I think I've nailed that one down.

I can only vote once but put me down for two complete sets.

Alas,

I do not have a complete set of these issues. I am missing the following issues

Predator vs. Magnus tpb

I am also missing these issues, which I think should also be considered part of the regular issues

Destroyer #0 newsstand price variant
Visitor vs. Valiant Universe #'s 1 and 2 newsstand price variant
Harbinger tpb 2nd print
:hm:

so do you have the 703 issues that greg considers the regular issues? I am also wondering why you think that the price variants need to in the "regular" issues when even you list them as "variants"...the TPB is exactly that...a Trade Paper Back...I think that greg listed the regular issues in a thread last week...I guess I could find it...of course there was some discussion of the regular issues but I dont think that any of the books that you listed come close to being considered "regular" issues...

I don't know about tpb's not being part of that regular issues count. I just went to the inventories page, clicked on one of everything sample entry and the Predator vs. Magnus tpb didn't have an asterisk next to it so I assumed that meant it was part of the 'regular' issues.

As for the newsstand price variants, they weren't on the inventories list at all (either as regular or variant), but think of it this way: if you were buying your Valiants off of the newsstands when the books were coming out, the $2.50 cover versions of these three books were your 'regular issues'. And the Harbinger tpb 2nd print, I figured if Solar #10 second print was listed as a regular issue, why not this second print as well (and the free view second print too for that matter, although I have one of those courtesy of SonicDan so that's why I didn't include that one on the list).

I do have all the other 'regular issues' though, so if I'm wrong I botched your poll!

Well I dont think that the Solar 10 2nd Print is considered a "regular" issue. I just reread the thread about this that I started a couple of weeks ago and Greg said that the astericks did not perfectly match up with the "regular" issues...also with the newstand price thing...Shadowman 0 non-chormium was a newstand version at it is considered a variant. Also the newstand version does not exists for every book. I think that if there was a newstand version for every book then we might have something. I really dont know...this is one of those greg things to decide. Let me see if I can find that thread...
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/fo ... .php?t=835
here we go...
check that thread out...Greg posted a list the way that the inventory page views the comics...I guess that is what I am going on...Dont worry about the poll...now the the poll is +2 for complete sets and -1 for not complete... :P

I have about 100 or so issues to go for a complete set but money has been a bit tight that last couple of months so I have not bought many back issues lately. Maybe once my home tutoring checks start coming in(the school owes me 79 hours at 25.00 per hour, they are always slow to pay this :x so I can see buying some ccomics in the next month or so :D )
Welcome to the Jungle!!

No it wasn't me that did that!!

I have all the regular issues. Just missing Bloodshot #6 VVSS, & Visitor vs Valiant Universe #2 ($2.50)......probably 50 short of having 2 complete V1 sets, but one is enough for me. 7 to go for V2, & they are mostly the game variants. I think I have 100% of the regular issues. I haven't added the latest books I've received to my inventory list yet, or added all my extras. When I do, it ought to bump me up a few notches...:)---Steve G

Hard for me to believe that complete sets are "winning" I guess I need to rework the questions maybe. I think that people who see this thread might not look at it if they dont have a complete set. I dont know..I wish I had paid more attention in those survey building classes...oh well...I guess that we will atleast get a sense of how many complete sets are out there....

How about just a "How many regular Valiant do you own?"
and divide up the answer by numbers
less than 250 (just starting a collection)
250-450 (mid way there)
450-650 (getting close to complete)
650-702 (just a few more issues to be complete)
703 - a complete run!!

I was thinking about something like that, but the main point of the poll is to find out how many complete sets are out there...I think that the main thing is that people are not reading this thread unless they have a complete set or they read everything that is posted like a few of us do...I mean there are over 200 registered people on this board and we have like 30 votes...I think that it also stems from the fact that people who have complete sets are quick to brag about it while those that dont have complete sets are not lining up to point that out...I dont think that there is anyway to word questions to get around the psychological part of it....it is like asking "Do you smoke Marijuana?" Well your answers are always going to be skewed because people are less likely to say that they are doing something illegal. No way to word that question to get around that...at least I dont know of one...

I'd have to check to be sure, but I think I'm about 5 away, not counting the recently-discovered newstand variants.

Need: Harbinger Files 2, Visitor vs. Valiant 1,2, Visitor 13, Unity: Lost Chapter.

Also, my Captain Johner reprints are only in about F/VF, so I guess I need them too.

{sigh} I guess 696 isn't too bad.

For me, most of the fun in collecting comics is the hunt. There wouldn't be enough challenge to continue collecting if I could just pay whatever it took to have every book I want. I like having a list to check items off of, with reasonable prices that I'm willing to pay (which expand and contract depending on the difficulty of the hunt and my ability to focus on the collection).

How much fun would it be if we could pull a Nic Cage and just buy whatever we wanted, whenever we wanted. I'd take his bank account don't get me wrong, but not for collecting purposes.

It's the thrill of the hunt and finding the bargain that keeps it fresh. As far as what I still need for a full set of Valiants, I already have all of the stories, the remaining issues are the same stories but in a slightly different form (the Unity trades, the gold x-o 1/2, the newsstand price variants, etc.). Even though I have the stories already, I still want the alternate issues as well, it's just part of my OCD. :P :P :P

I have seen the nic cage collection mentioned a few times in the last couple of days(all negative) and I was wondering what some of the details of that was...I know that he has sold the collection, but I was jsut wondering what some of the details are...what books did he buy, condition, price paid...that sort of thing...I am off to google, but I would also like anything that you guys already know...or maybe even a link. thanks

Sorry, I misunderstood - I thought the idea was just to get an idea of the proportion of people who had complete sets. Not just the actual numbers. Thus, I thought you wanted to get more people who DIDN't have complete sets voting as well. :)

I think that I misunderstood a little bit also...the first time the poll was run I wanted to know the ratio of people with complete sets against the people with incomplete sets. Now I think that I just want the number of complete sets since all other collections would be incomplete by definition. So to sum it up...I am not really sure what I am looking for...

that was a couple of years ago though (wasn't it?) unless I missed something recently...sold the comics when he married LMP...christ, the marriage only lasted three months???...shoulda kept the comics...so why the recent talk on this?
Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?

I dont know why all of the talk...it has just started coming up...I did look up a little stuff...mainlyit was about what he sold nothing about how he built his collection. I remember hearing about the comic sale when it happend, but not much else other than the price tag. It just seems like I have seen it mentioned a few times in the last couple of days in a very negative tone...dont really know why though.
