Got to read the new X-O Manowar #1 today!

Post by daydreamscomics »

Hey gang,

It's been awhile, but I figured this was post worthy news!

I traveled to Chicago this weekend to attend C2E2 and do some shopping at Ikea for the new place. I got to hang out with Dinesh and the Valiant gang at their booth, and was fortunate enough to get a sneak peak at the full issue of X-O #1.

I gotta say, it's gonna make the wait totally worth it. Great story, great art, some nods to the Valiant of old but new changes that gives it it's own vibe so that it's not the same old story on repeat. I immediately upped my order numbers, as I think reaction to this book is going to surprise people. In talking with Dinesh about all the different angles to look at a relaunch such as this, I can say he and his team have thought it through and know what they are doing and are presenting a great product!

I give it two thumbs up!

Zach

I got to read it as well and it exceeded my expectations! Some surprises in there.
The quality is outstanding. The writing, pencils, inks and colors: all top notch.
I like the new logo that will be on the books as well. DAN

Cool! I'm hoping to start hearing some early reviews from some of the more reputable comic news websites. That always helps buzz (if it's good).

I'm hearing lots of fence sitting. I went to a local con yesterday, and it was literally either all Marvel/Image/DC or "local underground" work being sold and nobody had either interest in nor awareness of, other studios. "Dark Horse? They still make books? What's IDW? Didn't Valiant have a lawsuit? They don't really own those characters, do they?"

I'm seriously just sick of stupid people.

One positive note, though, was that I got to talk to WM Loebs and as usual, he was a cool cat. Asked me if I was looking forward to any books, I mentioned Valiant and he said "they used to do some really good books."

So it looks like the concerns from some about Valiant changing their logo 6 or 7 issues into their new launch isn't going to be a factor afterall. The new logo will be on the first books and all the books going forward so it wasn't a last second decision to change the logo. It looks to be several months in the works already :thumb:

I could draw a better logo if i was dead and had no limbs.

It doesn't scream "I'm a comic book, buy me" like the older Logos did.

No. It whispers "we were bored and barfed this up, late one night."

Yeah, even Atrocitus wouldn't barf on it.

Nope, you didn't miss it, only the ones who've read xo have seen it (afaik) and no one has spilled the beans on it yet.

I believe there will be an announcement soon so I will let them spill the beans.
I was told the current compass logo did not shrik down well for trade dress and they needed something less complex. It still maintains a classic feel to it, IMO.

I liked the one they had until a month or two ago. Hell, I've enjoyed all of them until the current D & C melting together one. It's terrible.
