This board is a crazy beast that's for sure but not even us HARDCORE Valiant fans can make THAT big of a dent into a print run of 42,000.

Even buying 50-100 copies like some people on this board are doing.

Well, (and I'm making an assumption here...please correct me if I need to be) we've bought up a lot of Paradise's stock which is 4% of the entire run and many more of us are getting multiple copies from either a LCS or DCBS / Mailordercomics.com.

I wonder how many copies members of this board have bought....honestly? I don't suppose there's any way to know, but we could at least move into the 5% range. That's a tremendous boost for such a small demographic.

If that's the case it's only 16.8% of the print run.

This.

I've kinda stated this elsewhere. VEI is certainly well served with a big launch. But whiffs of bubbles can have an opposite effect.

Poor Johnny public's got short memory...This dude is a joke and a half and the public still eats it up..Glad to say I was never a fan!

Couldn't keep my promise!

Dude just urks me because I know his history and his crappy "art"... and for him to take a jab at Valiant is just so ironic to me because Valiant is everything that his IMAGE never was, could or will be.

Victory will come When Valiant shows this public what great creative art is!

It's like the Eddie Murphy line: If you starving and somebody throws you a cracker, your gonna be like Got damn that's the best cracker I ever had in my life!!

Watch when Valiant starts dishing out these gourmet meals: Salmon & steak, shrimp & lobster!!

Think them crackers are going to be desirable & tasty after that!? I think NOT!

This 42000 order is great. I think numbers will drop, of course, but having that 1:20 book on the first three X-O may still keep numbers around 20,000, right? Even that isn't bad for a third issue. I plan to give away many of my extra copies to find more fans.

My question is how this is sustainable? Everyone knows that the numbers are going to drop, but I think it's going to be a shock to some as far as how much of a drop. This board is very excited...enough to order huge quantities of first issues, but when that wears off and we're down to buying 1, 2 copies, what then?

You're a retailer...the fact that you ordered 2000 copies is not a big surprise as you realized there was a market you could sell to (this board) and you capitalized on it. The people that ordered 50-100 copies are the ones I'm concerned about. That will not last.
While I agree with where you're coming from Tim that this board cannot sustain these numbers and there will be a drop-off, I do think this book will pick up new readers so the drop-off may not be as bad as you expect. Will new readers replace the sales lost to people not picking up 50-100 copies who knows? Will it happen by issue #2? I don't know, but it may happen sooner then we expect.

Where is your Valiant blog?
It was a tumblr following VALIANT release news. Deathmate Witness. Starting new, will let peeps know. Really like X-O #1, so hyped again. Got to think of a new domain name first. Won't be on tumblr, it's just not a powerful enough platform.
Fantastic. I absolutely will check it out.

After almost a year of quietly growing mine, I am ready to do a full-on crazy launch over the weekend. A small handful of things to catch-up on first. I hope it will be fun - and somewhat helpful.

Name a recent #1 issue that was successful and has no variants.

Saga. The C2E2 doesn't count because it wasn't a launch book.

On a smaller scale, many other Image #1s. And if we are talking about books with only one variant and not three, then alot more books.

Marvel and DC usually will do one variant cover unless it's one of their main books and they may do more than one variant, but not always. Dynamite comes up with lots of variants. 4 different covers is alot of different covers.

I'm not saying they are over-doing it like Dynamite does, but that I can see his point.

I bet if Warren sends him a copy of the book, he will read it and will say good things about it. Rob loves comics. He has lots of haters though.

IDW is doing 55 covers for their upcoming new Mars Attacks series. Plus what was it close to 100 store exclusive covers for Godzilla: Kingdom of Monsters #1.

Frankly IMHO I think variant covers are a complete and total waste. In the long run they don't help sales beyond the first few couple issues. By the seventh issues of all their books VEI should just stop doing them after that they will know if they're going to succeed or fail as a comic book publisher. If they succeed then they use the money to hire top-notch creators to put out more great comics and if they fail well there is no sense in hiring creators to covers if you can't pay them for their time.
Know this: I would rather be hated for being honest for my opinions, than being loved as a liar!
