X-O Manowar #1 is on Comixology!

They have also released some classic issues, Harby 0-6, X-O 0-6, and Bloodshot 0-4.
Looks like they are exclusive on Comixology:

Wait until MOC ships my books.... or set up Comixology account...
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Ouch... $3.99 for a digital comic... that's rough and hard to justify...
But still...

Re: X-O Manowar #1, Same Day Digital!
From a publisher's standpoint, I can understand it. You want to get digital out there as it is the future of publishing and there is a growing audience who is ready for digital. BUT, comic books are still driven by the direct market and you don't want to undercut brick and mortar retailers. You still have to have a strong paper publishing arm. Not just for initial sales, but for the heat and momentum and attention that can be generated by the inflating price of back issues. VEI doesn't make any money from X-O #1 becoming a $20 book, but the attention that brings to them is priceless. That is still something that is very much a part of our industry. And that just doesn't translate over to digital. But they can't ignore digital. So, right now VEI (and all traditional comic publishers) have to walk a fine balance between print and digital and do whatever they can to capitalize on both. Which, for now, means not sacrificing the print arm of business to the digital arm of business.bobby97801 wrote:does anyone know why they charge the same price for a digital copy?
But for me personally, at $3.99 for digital, I'll wait on the printed copy to be shipped.

they should do it like they do it for dvds... you buy the comic and it comes with a free digital copy.

Re: X-O Manowar #1, Same Day Digital!
I don't know anything about the digital comics market but that does seem a little ridiculous. Is this normal pricing?? What is everyone else doing?
Why would I pay for a digital comic at the same price as a comic I can hold in my hand? Just based on the fact that comic book values will probably go up I couldn't justify a digital comic that will never increase in value. At least with a comic book I have a chance of making my money back if I so choose.

Re: X-O Manowar #1, Same Day Digital!
I think we went through this on another thread about the (at the time) possible digital strategy.
Accross the board the digital books are the same price as the print. The intent there is to not take away possible consumers of the hard copy and, by extension, not make retailers fell as though they are being undercut.
The numbers are also dubious when it comes to print versus didgital cost, but most estimates (not including start-up costs) put digital at anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 of the cost to produce. I believe digital pricing should, and eventually will, reflect this.
DC has the policy of dropping the price after a month when the next issue comes out. I also think this should continue each month until the price is at $.99. I also agree with the free digital download with purchase of the floppy as that only promotes purchasing the book that much more.
That being said, I have no problem paying full price for the digital book. Even at $3.99 for a start up company like Valiant, or a smaller publisher like Dynamite, I understand their need to charge cover price. As I am almost 100% digital (other than trades) it is the same cost to me as buying the floppy. However, there is that nagging issue of not having a tangible book in my hands, and I definitely understand a consumer's problem with that.

Re: X-O Manowar #1, Same Day Digital!
Is there any way to allow someone to get the digital version for free if they have the print version?
Paying for both is crazy.
Or maybe they could have a free "classic issue" that came with every current issue purchased?

I saw this guy's post on Valiant's FB page
E.F. Paredes: This is awesome! Not only can I get a hard copy for my collection, I can download a reading copy for my iPad. Good job!
So he's going to pay $8 an issue to get both??!!

The standard model seems to be same price as print for the first month, then drop a dollar or two a month (or several months) afterwards. This is DC's model, and Marvel is starting to finally get on board too.
We'll see if Valiant drops their digital price after a month.

Re: X-O Manowar #1, Same Day Digital!
I guess $3.99 is okay for the current issue, I won't be paying it because I've got plenty of physical copies coming. I'm a little confused on why the back issues are $1.99, though. I know the Bloodshot issues can be had for less than that in a physical form. If you count TPBs, then the same could be said for the first four issues (and zeros) of X-O and Harbinger.
I'm glad to see that Valiant has decided to go with digital distribution as well. Even though it's not my thing, I know it'll help bring in new readers.

Re: X-O Manowar #1, Same Day Digital!
No offense to anyone, but most of the posters on this board are collectors and have a hard time thinking from a digital perspective. The average person who buys digitally probably knows little of back-issue availability and prices OR has no interest in tracking them down...espescially when you can sit on your couch an download them to your iPad, etc, never worrying about storage.etos45 wrote:I guess $3.99 is okay for the current issue, I won't be paying it because I've got plenty of physical copies coming. That said, I do think they should be offering some of the back issues for free as an enticement to bring people back for more. Like all the #0 or #1 issues. I would also think the non-relaunch titles they eventually add (like Armorines for example) might get a price cut to $.99.

Re: X-O Manowar #1, Same Day Digital!
I get where you're coming from and you're right, digital comics are not aimed at me. I mostly only use them if they come free with a physical copy. However, the reason why .mp3s worked and I don't think this model does is because .mp3s made the total album cheaper. That made it more appealing than buying the physical album to many and it was cheap and easy enough that many didn't want to bother with piracy anymore.BugsySig wrote: No offense to anyone, but most of the posters on this board are collectors and have a hard time thinking from a digital perspective. If they drop the current issues by a dollar or two for a few months, then I can seen that being appealing to some. I just don't get why they (many all companies, because after checking they mostly seem to be $1.99) are charging so much for back issues. It seems they should be no more then 99 cents.

So comic shops aren't at a disadvantage. If they do the same as most other companies, the digital price will be reduced by $1 after the comic has been in print for a month.bobby97801 wrote:does anyone know why they charge the same price for a digital copy?

Re: X-O Manowar #1, Same Day Digital!
I never got the whole "disadvantage" thing. If you buy digital at cover you're getting a double disadvantage: You don't get a physical copy of the comic and you could actually be paying more since most comic shops offer a discount off of cover and online services go almost half price on their issues. It's my belief that people who buy/steal digital comics wouldn't be going to the comic shops anyways. Making the price more competitive only reduces the number of people stealing the digital comic, in my opinion.Paul Nolan wrote:So comic shops aren't at a disadvantage.
