I like your ideas here. Lots of great possibilities. Could be something that will make normal life difficult for him, if he has no control over 'the mark of the shadow' or something along that line.jmatt wrote:Not for me, I like new twists. What if it's something that only (and always) appears on his face after sundown, or midnight, or when the Shadowman power kicks in? What if he can't control it, like Hulk's appearance changes when he gets angry? New possibilities...grendeljd wrote:Agreed. I really like that idea. Does it have to be a mask?jmatt wrote: The face doesn't look like a mask, though, more like war paint. You can see the contours of of facial lines through it.
And like others, when I first saw it I was reminded of Image characters for some weird reason.
It's a shame the comparison to Chapel is cropping up, but I admit I had to do a double take on that Liefeld drawing posted above - the mask was very similar. By no means is SM copying that, I think it looks better.

Re: Looks like Shadowman - Teaser image inside
The recent Shadowman teaser has really fueled my enthusiasm for the new line. Below is my take on the potential colors. The line on the nose suggests to me that what we're looking at is the traditional voodoo skull face paint (as others have suggested). No, the weapon isn't intended to be white...

Great job, Sanman!

Re: Looks like Shadowman - Teaser image inside
Why cant it be a mask that when he puts it on, conforms and becomes one with his face during the night. It could become a part of him while he wears it and changes him, I think that would tie in nicely with everything the old jack boniface ever said about how the mask made him feel when he put it on come night.
It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

I'd agree that it's a mask. I don't think face paint would be deliberately drawn as tight. Still, I got a feeling that the mask is white...Heath wrote:Great job, Sanman!

I like that idea...a bit like The Mask in a way. I also think the suit will be a midnight blue when in full color. Black would be too generic looking...hopefully we find out on ThursdayAram wrote:Why cant it be a mask that when he puts it on, conforms and becomes one with his face during the night. Colored like this the costume is a nice blend of the two VH1 designs...

Excellent work, Sanman! I wish I had the time to put more effort into it.
What about black pants with the blue shirt as you already have?
I don't think I like the mask being white. It actually is very reminiscent of Chapel rather than Shadowman. But, I'm just glad he's not in a trench coat...

I was thinking the same thing about the color of the mask. Maybe they will tweak it later on.

Why does everyone think the mask is white? All we have is a gray scale image to go by.Daniel Jackson wrote:Heath wrote:Excellent work, Sanman! I wish I had the time to put more effort into it.

I believe that the mask is white because of the center stripe running down the nose. Moreover, in voodoo culture Baron Semedi’s (and his skull face) is an iconic and very important voodoo spirit.tchalla8 wrote:Why does everyone think the mask is white? In some parts of New Orleans--my home town as well as Jack Boniface’s--the Baron and Marie Laveau are nearly as ubiquitous as Christ and the Virgin…

Awesome!!!
Good catch on the Baron Semedi reference. This makes a lot of sense and is a great way to further tie him to New Orleans.
Based on the belt, I don't think he'll be a jazz musician but a hair and make-up artist on films shot in New Orleans. I kid! I kid!
Good stuff and looking forward to finding out more about the creative team. I'm very excited about the potential for this character.

Re: Looks like Shadowman - Teaser image inside
I kinda like the idea of Shadowman title that is set up as an agency with many agents. The side logo on the shirt kind of implies that. Usually those are "company logos". Most heroes that create a costume don't think of a Pocket logo as standard, it's not visual enough. As an agent of an organization that makes more sense. It definitely looks uniform-ish to me.

Or what if this version of Jack is someone who wears a uniform during the day? That could then translate to his costume choice.paradise wrote:I kinda like the idea of Shadowman title that is set up as an agency with many agents. The side logo on the shirt kind of implies that. Yeah, that's what I was getting at. Something he can't necessarily control and makes for an element of danger in his identity being exposed, etc. It'd be cool if it had a "glow-in-the-dark" effect, like an irridescent tattoo that only shows up after midnight or changes with the phases of the moon, etc. I dunno, I'm just spitballing here.grendeljd wrote:Could be something that will make normal life difficult for him, if he has no control over 'the mark of the shadow' or something along that line.
I think it's the small hands that are reminding me of Image's known penchant (at least in the old days) for being less than anatomically correct.
Still love it though, and it's really juiced me about the line.
