The VH1 acronym sucks. Let's rename it!

Post by Carson »

There's been plenty of disdain for the VH1 and VH2 acronyms used to name the two Valiant Comics lines from 92-00.

Since Acclaim bought Valiant, came up with these acronyms, and then drove the Valiant brand into bankruptcy, I don't think their acronyms deserve to live.

Let's replace them with something more meaningful, "something that doesn't make [Greg] hear the Behind the Music theme" every time he reads VH1.

Vote on VH2 here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37922&p=811060#p811060" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Vote on VEI here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37923" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Place your votes and debate below!

Also, please feel free to send me more ideas and I'll add them to the options.

Whether it sucks or not is besides the point. The VH1 and VH2 abbreviations are what we've always used. Changing it now muddies the water even further.
Kind of a "ain't broke, don't fix it" sort of thing.

Besides, the further we get into the new books, the further away we'll be from the old ones.

Yeah, I am fine with it too for the same reasons.

I just figured you'd blame it on watching too many episodes of Dr. Who... which would be weird since there's not a lot of spelling going on in those episodes, but it would be an excuse. :thumb:

Speaking of excuses, I've got a British Blu-Ray set of Matrix DVDs you can borrow. :hm:

NO DR. WHO! If the Doc is on the tv, you can guarantee the wife has the remote. Especially if the episode feature that horrible Rose Tyler or that new Doctor.

My current status regarding the Matrix is discussed in the next episode of OTV.

The problem isn't that the acronym sucks, it's that there is an acronym in the first place.

Let's give it a week so the less frequent boarders weigh in. I will say, I'm amazed by the support for VH1. It looks like the vocal minority of VH1 haters have not yet voted :-)

That, but this board has been around over 10 years and we have been so acustom to calling it that. Hard to change something like that once it becomes a part of our culture.

Seems pointless to call for change. If a change happens, it will happen organically, through some natural momentum and not through a Forum poll I reckon.

As for meaningful, sorry to say the OP has decided what he believes is 'meaningful' since there was not option for no change; no option for other; and no damn Ice Cream option...

Yeah Vh1 is as synonymous to Valiant as DCU (or DCnU)is to DCComics and MU is to Marvel.

I like Classic Valiant, Acclaim, and New Valiant.

The VH1 acronym doesn't make any sense, and worse, acronyms themselves make communities less accessible. The benefit gained from its use does not outweigh the negative ramifications to the openness of the community.

Drop the "New" and I'm on board. :thumb: I think since current Valiant is in print, calling it simply "Valiant" is right. Especially if older VALIANT is called Classic Valiant. Valiant is usually the term I use, because I don't like the VEI acronym... they've brought Valiant back, I think they've earned being called it.
