I have to admit, I'm a little perplexed. Where would someone find these games? In a casino? Weird.

Did anyone catch at the bottom:
"Pariplay's parent company, GMS Entertainment, is 50% owned by video game publisher Majesco Entertainment Company"

Interesting, but not something I would have expected. I guess this proves that VEI is solvent enough for now if they have extra money to throw at an unusual market like this. They keep building up lots of different revenue streams and before you know it they'll be starting their own movie studio! (Hey, a guy can dream, right?)

Re: Time for a casino trip
I doubt if they expect the regular comic fans to specifically go make a trip to spend money on these (although a rich hardcore fan could maybe buy a machine?), but looking at Pairplay's site, it seems that alot of their games might be online gambling things. Might not have to make a trip at all. If they can get the games made and then also get any physical game machines distributed to casino's or whatever, I don't see a problem with them making some money off them. People in casino's will just wander around and play whatever looks interesting I would imagine. So it may not be targeting their current audience specifically, but may make them a modest income stream and put their name and properties in front of people who wouldn't normally see them any other way. Could be a good thing as long as they aren't hurting for the initial money that they're investing to start this up.ilzuccone wrote:i don't see how comic fans translate into gambling dollars.
I also saw on Pairplay's site that they have set up a deal similar to VEI's with Atari to bring a lot of their old game properties back via new gambling games and such. So Pairplay isn't just a nobody. Also, the Majesco entertainment main site shows many recognizable console games going back quite a ways. So they are a well established company as well.

Blizzard, but developing a relationship with a video game company (as many bad memories that may induce) is a good thing and spreading awareness of VEI properties is always positive.

pariplay could have approached valiant. meaning no money out of valiant's pocket. these gambling companies are probably always on the hunt for properties to make their games stick out.Phoenix8008 wrote: Could be a good thing as long as they aren't hurting for the initial money that they're investing to start this up.

Yeah, agree. This seems like a low cost, low risk move for VEI.ilzuccone wrote:pariplay could have approached valiant. meaning no money out of valiant's pocket. these gambling companies are probably always on the hunt for properties to make their games stick out.Phoenix8008 wrote: Could be a good thing as long as they aren't hurting for the initial money that they're investing to start this up.
VEI is leveraging some success and character recognition to build a strategic partnership with a company that is going to use those characters to add some extra notoriety to their games.
VEI benefits hopefully with some added brand recognition from people who wouldn't normally care about these characters.
And maybe a small cut of the profits
Pariplay gets to use VEI's characters for their products ... with some significant cross marketing from VEI.

I don't gamble often but when I was in Vegas last year it amazed me how many stupid-*SQUEE* types of slot machines there were. I would probably drop a few bucks in a Valiant slot. Maybe $10 tops.

To be fair, it's not like any of the titles are really aimed at kids. The targeted audience tends older when your default is multi-issue arcs.jedimarley wrote:So VEI is going the way of online gambling.

Somebody drew a bunch of dicks in the textbooks at our local middle school and all the kids still seem to learn math.

wait. what age are we talking here? when i was a kid the more violent the better! I remember buying an issue of eternal warrior from a 10cent bin because the idea of a guy fighting an eternal war was so cool.Aram wrote:Because titles like Bloodshot are so kid friendly with their covers?jedimarley wrote:So VEI is going the way of online gambling.

Re: Time for a casino trip
I was thinking that perhaps these are computer-based casino games to be played at home. But if not, I can see a lot of really confused gamblers wondering who the heck these characters are.
