If Comixology goes DRM free I may switch to digital comics. (I would still get the trades.)

I'd love to see more writers become exclusive ... Cause then you could really expand the line to 10-15 titles per month.
Kindt and Lemire joining Dysart as exclusives would be huge.
We know Kindt has the ability to do 5+ titles and do them well. Imagine him doing 4-5 titles exclusively for Valiant - I'd be super thrilled.

Re: Bleeding Cool: SDCC 2014 Valiant Rumor...
Well, Lemire is out, because of his DC commitments continuing alongside Descender. Venditti is highly unlikely to leave Flash and Green Lantern. That means this will likely be a bunch of artists, though some writers would be great. It'll be interesting to see what happens. What day is the panel?

I for one could handle a few more valiant books a month.

I tend to agree. DRM is the bane of our digital existence. I flat-out refuse to buy into it.iwantvaliant wrote:If Comixology goes DRM free I may switch to digital comics. (I would still get the trades.)

At the very least, I think they could round up to a nice even slate of 10 books a month...p-s manowar wrote:+1 I have been waiting for more titles a month that now I find myself buying old valiant stuff.ilzuccone wrote:I for one could handle a few more valiant books a month.

That would be crazy and seem to suggest that VEI is doing quite well.
Would Mind Mgmt get in the way of Kindt being exclusive?

Creator-owned stuff usually is allowed in "exclusivity" of creators. For instance, Hickman is "exclusive" to Marvel, but he's allowed to write any creator-owned stuff he wants.

I thought they had a panel? But anyway, their marketing strategy for announcements is to avoid the big Cons, because their announcements get less attention then. So yeah. (I thought there was a panel, though...)TheFerg714 wrote:

Re: Bleeding Cool: SDCC 2014 Valiant Rumor...
Since Comixology is now offering DRM free titles it will be interesting to see if Valiant jumps on board. I HOPE they do because I love reading digital. Image books like Sheltered and Saga are DRM free in CBZ and PDF format, so that is definitely pretty huge. I know that many people have been upset by the changes at Comixology but the latest turn of events seems pretty great.

Since the number one distributor of digital comics is now allowing it, I would think most of the small publishers would follow suit. It made sense, from a business standpoint, not to do so before. Now, not so much.Sir Sandrick wrote:Since Comixology is now offering DRM free titles it will be interesting to see if Valiant jumps on board. I HOPE they do because I love reading digital. Re: Bleeding Cool: SDCC 2014 Valiant Rumor...
Well, it's exactly like Amazon does DRM for ebooks. They no longer make the decision whether the ebooks have DRM, the control lies solely with the publisher now. It is an "opt-out" setup (I'm assuming the same applies to comics through Comixology) though, so the default is DRM-laden. Hopefully all publishers will allow DRM-free.BugsySig wrote:Since the number one distributor of digital comics is now allowing it, I would think most of the small publishers would follow suit. I mentioned this as one of the possible positive things to come out of the Amazon acquisition.
Comixology has now passed the buck to the publishers. It's their move now. In my opinion, any publisher who doesn't provide their books DRM-free (who use Comixology, that is - I would hope Dark Horse would follow suit, too, as there are lots of their books I would love to try) is anti-consumer and stuck in the stone ages. We want to own our digital books!
