Re: Bloodshot Reborn 2016 Annual #1 Announced
Reading the article again it made me realize that this is most likely a stop-gap to give LaRosa time to finish 'The Analog Man' without missing a month. I'll take it.

Honestly never would've picked Bloodshot for the first annual. Also wish they'd of gone with "yearbooks"

Love the idea of Annuals. I like longer standalone stories. I welcome that approach.

I also am pleased to see annuals/yearbooks return to Valiant. It has been way too long without them

I gotta believe that with Bloodshot being the first movie to come to market, VEI will be giving it a lot of extra attention and marketing.dornwolf wrote:Honestly never would've picked Bloodshot for the first annual. Also wish they'd of gone with "yearbooks"

Very cool, I dig the idea of an 'annual' over a 'yearbook' - and I'm sure this will be a fun romp... Bloodshot verses a Jason Voorhees archetype? Ha!

That'd make sense. We're still way out on that though aren't we. Has a script even been turned in?jmatt wrote:I gotta believe that with Bloodshot being the first movie to come to market, VEI will be giving it a lot of extra attention and marketing.dornwolf wrote:Honestly never would've picked Bloodshot for the first annual. Dino continues to say the film is further along than people may think. I think there's a script and it's in pre-production. Directors have been announced and once they're done filming John Wick 2, I'd bet it's their next project.dornwolf wrote:That'd make sense. We're still way out on that though aren't we. I hate Annual issues. Just a way to make a quick buck of a story we could have gotten in one or two regular issues. It also ruins the numbering... a number one issue between a number eleven and twelve issue, or whatever.
If an artists needs more time just skip a month, like they do with Rai.

Would you rather have them release this as Bloodshot Reborn #12?Thomas wrote:I hate Annual issues. Just a way to make a quick buck of a story we could have gotten in one or two regular issues. It also ruins the numbering... a number one issue between a number eleven and twelve issue, or whatever.

I don't have a problem getting a good story in exchange for money. That's how this stuff works. The 'artist needing more time' thing is just speculation from a single poster.Thomas wrote:I hate Annual issues. The worst annuals were Marvel in the late 80s, early 90s. Just filler, and it was awful.

They could have put the story before or after the analog man arc, if it is actually relevant for the overall plot.jeremycoe wrote:Would you rather have them release this as Bloodshot Reborn #12?Thomas wrote:I hate Annual issues. Agreed -that was not a high point for Annualsnycjadie wrote:The worst annuals were Marvel in the late 80s, early 90s. Just filler, and it was awful.
I like the annual format as a tradition, but it does have high potential to be used for filler or throwaway content. I like it as a means to tell a longer one-shot tale, as long as there is substance to the story.

Re: Bloodshot Reborn 2016 Annual #1 Announced
Well, despite the trepidation on the boards here from some, I'm digging the idea of an annual. I quite like a little something different to shake things up and keep things fresh, so I'm looking forward to a bumper-sized issue with a standalone story or two in it.
Regular numbering and plot continues afterwards, so just stick this wherever the Hell you want in your pullbox, it's no big deal.

Re: Bloodshot Reborn 2016 Annual #1 Announced
Ironically, I was at my lcs yesterday looking at the Star Wars annual (I currently read the main SW & Darth Vader books from Marvel), and decided to pass on it since it didn't look like a story that mattered to the main series, grendeljd wrote:Agreed -that was not a high point for Annualsnycjadie wrote:The worst annuals were Marvel in the late 80s, early 90s. ...
I'm getting the BS:R Annual regardless, though

Re: Bloodshot Reborn 2016 Annual #1 Announced
I think it's odd that 9/10 when I talk to people they use the word 'filler' like it's some kind of blasphemy (the other 1/10 it's used to discuss repairing holes in walls). I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of 'filler' if someone finds it entertaining and enjoyable. Isn't that the whole point of entertainment media in the first place, whether it's there to pad out the story a bit or serve as a story in its own right?
"It's not part of the main story though..." - Yeah? So what - you enjoyed it right?

I guess it just annoys me that VEI hasn't standardized their "filler" issues. We've had #0 issues, 1-shot #1 issues, stand-alone story in-numbering issues, and now an Annual issue. Just make a decision and stick with it.Shadowman99 wrote:I think it's odd that 9/10 when I talk to people they use the word 'filler' like it's some kind of blasphemy (the other 1/10 it's used to discuss repairing holes in walls).
