That same issue of Previews also had Q&W on the cover. Could an issue of Previews actually become highly collectible??

I don't think it would be the first time that an issue of Previews has become a "wanted book". Highly collectible would be interesting. :hm:

Since Previews is a marketing tool, and an odd format (size/shape), I don't think it can qualify as a true "first appearance" comic book.

I'm beginning to wonder if the idea of "first appearance" is a flawed debate... almost as if we're arguing about "which came first" between the chicken and the egg.

For example, there's an "egg" in Shadowman #7. It's a limousine.
There's a "chicken" inside that "egg". It's Master Darque.
We even hear the "chicken" cluck a few times.
But the chicken is completely unseen inside the egg.

Does Master Darque "first appear" in Shadowman #7?

:hm: :D

You're right of course, the Previews Superman death cover and Plasm issue quickly come to mind as wanted issues...

It is a tad unusual to believe collectors will flock to a thick Previews magazine for 4 pages of original content but if the TV series hits big (and yes, that's a big IF) there would definitely be increased demand for this material....it's origin related and a story unique to their mythos yet not their first serialized appearance either.
Although the magazine displays them on the cover and promotes their upcoming series.

Other questions revolve around supply. How many Previews mags were printed and how many still exist? 500? 1,000? 2,000? It's hard to quantify but logically seems quite scarce --- it's not often available on Ebay and while not scientific proof it's indicative of limited supply. Does anybody have a hoard of this magazine issue? Personally I never even gave such a notion a 2nd thought. I used to pitch 'em and my friends did as well.

I don't expect this to become highly collectible but neither would I be shocked if that happened to some extent. The current lack of awareness of the story poses a barrier as well.

Was this content (Q&W portion) even reprinted in the Omnibus?

I have a decent stack on Q&W #1s.

I sold one on eBay a bit ago, but I have no plans to list any other copies for now.

There will be BIG news coming out soon on this show.

And I'll repeat, there will not be enough copies of this book when the demand really hits.

And when ALL the "names" associated with the show get out.

Oh boy

As for all the associated Q&W books,

Get them all. Simple.

The show has so much going for it. So much.

I have dupes of a few, but Magnus is the one that has eluded me thus far ... and my Shadowman #16 is somewhere in the dark reaches of my long boxes. :D I'll locate it eventually.

I suppose this means that the market has dubbed the Retailer Review copy to be the first appearances of Q&W.

This proves conclusively that media content will increase collector interest and thus back issue value. Now, that isn't exactly surprising -- but it demonstrates that people are paying attention to this little, 1% of the market publisher.

Just a small add on to the convo regarding previews, I think there is a distinction between free and a monthly publication. I.e. Marvel Age. It was a monthly book in comic book format and size. I absolutely think they qualify as first appearance. And any other published material would also be first appearance if it is widely available. Retailer reviews would qualify in my mind because they are very much like variants. But again this is just my opinion. I personally will hunt down any thing that fits in that description.

Speaking of previews, does anyone have an extra copy of the Q&W Previews issue to offer on Ebay? It would be interesting to see how it fares in relation to the recent spike on Retailer Reviews... :hm:

There are currently two copies of the Retailer Review being offered ... one at $143.99 and the other at $124.99. No hint of the Previews copy though.

Considering the current state of the industry, not a crazy price.

Great sale.

This does not surprise me. I think 9.8s of the preview and the 2 variants of the first issue will go higher.

Also, only 10K ordered of the first Goat, according to Comichron data.

Quantum & Woody is interesting because no one considered it "expensive" at any time. Some people bag and board everything, so there are high grade copies, and pressing helps, but there are many copies that are 20 years old and "unloved" in their collections.
