The longest running Valiant Universe is VEI
The Valiant Universe began with Magnus #1 dated May 1991.
The Valiant Universe ended with X-O Manowar #68 dated September 1996.
That's a total of 5 years and 4 months from May 1991 to September 1996.
The Valiant Universe returned in May 2012 with X-O Manowar #1, brought back by Valiant Entertainment, Inc. (VEI).
5 years and 4 months later calculates to September 2017, to tie the original Valiant Universe for longest-running.
Let's note that Magnus #1 actually shipped in March 1991, so there are two more months we could add to stretch the original universe to the limit... 5 years and 6 months.
Valiant just announced that Ninja-K #1 will be released in November 2017, including official item numbers from Diamond.
When the November 2017 books arrive, "the longest running Valiant Universe" crown passes to VEI.
The king is dead, long live the king!

Why aren't you calculating from the date of the hardcover collections in 2007?
They did have new content..

It's not that I don't have an avatar... I've just been working on it for the last few hundred years.

Consecutive months of publications are needed for "longest running" (no breaks)Aram wrote:Why aren't you calculating from the date of the hardcover collections in 2007?

At most, you could add three separate, non-consecutive months.greg wrote:Consecutive months of publications are needed for "longest running" (no breaks)Aram wrote:Why aren't you calculating from the date of the hardcover collections in 2007?

Either way, VEI would surpass even the most generous of such considerations early next year.

Re: The longest running Valiant Universe is VEI
Right, plus we're talking about the Valiant universe, which was "new" for VEI in 2012. Valiant 1990 wasn't Valiant universe, so we can't count Super Mario and Zelda either.
The original Valiant was "wider" in terms of titles running at the same time, but that was a sprint not the marathon.
I think VEI has it in November.

And unlike the original Valiant U, VEI is going from strength to strength in terms of quality of books (few exceptions here and there) and is producing strong new characters (Savage, Divinity, Roku etc). The original VU was on a slippery slope after Unity and never recovered.

Re: The longest running Valiant Universe is VEI
This Valiant Universe is much better in the sense that it consistently delivers great material. After the first 2.5 years of the original, they seemed to be in constant 'recovery' mode.

For me, the most meaningful stats are number of issues published, and years in the business. Milestone #1 comes next month. Fingers crossed on the number of issues published!

+1 - according to SoS's stats, they're not that far off with ~500 VEI individual issues compared to ~700 VH1 issues.nycjadie wrote:For me, the most meaningful stats are number of issues published, and years in the business.
