How many months with no Rai would get you worried?
About Rai potentially never coming back as it's own series?
The high quality of the art that was a major part of Rai's brand makes it tricky...

I read the complete series in August, and I will not lie to you, I want more! I want to know what happens next, and what happened to some characters that did not reappear in 4001AD. (There was the one-shot on the history of the Valiant universe, but we can not say that it told us much about what happened next.)
In any case, it's true that I cannot imagine anyone other than Clayton Crain drawing this series. Tomas Giorello maybe? I love his work on X-O. His drawings are very detailed.

I'm not at all a fan of the art. I found it to busy and hard to see what's happening.
I Miss the good old days.

Me too. I much preferred the issues done by CAFU. Would love to see him tackle 4002AD.

I agree. Crain's work is more suitable for covers. I think he lacks in the storytelling department, and his characters lack a certain liveliness.nonplayer wrote:I'm not at all a fan of the art. I found it to busy and hard to see what's happening.
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

There's not a need to bring Rai back yet, so there won't be a re-introduction of Rai for some time. Just about all of 2018 has been filled, as we have Harbinger Wars II during the summer, still have Psy-Lords on deck as a possible ongoing, more to hear regarding Britannia, Savage, and a few other mini's (please be more Eternity). Could we get a glimps during FCBD? Possibly, but who knows. Maybe by NYCC next year, there will be some news.
Personally, I would love to see Rai and War Mother together. First, they would be at odds with each other, maybe 2 or 3 arcs worth. Then spend an arc where they realize they are fighting the same war, then they start to focus on the real evil of 4002, the re-incarnation of Father!!

Re: How many months with no Rai would get you worried?
I loved the Rai series - it was the last holdout of a monthly book I bought from Valiant. Now I only buy the Deluxe HC's. If the series came back I'd look into it, but I expect a relaunch, which has become my excuse for a permanent jumping off point with monthlies.
Crain was amazing on the book - imagine if Greg Land or Adi Granov were to be signed up for it... awesome.

Re: How many months with no Rai would get you worried?
With War Mother ending, I really want to see Rai or some story in the 4001 come back. Wasn't there official talk of 4002 at some point?
My fingers are crossed that something starts up in 2018.
Either way, the glimpse into the future that these series provide is a huge part of why I love this Valiant Universe, it encourages me to imagine how what's going on in present leads to this or that. But I bet that presents to world-building issues. It's not as easy as saying the Book of Death is constantly rewriting itself.
While my pocket book is secretly grateful that VEI doesn't have more books coming, This is kind of the problem of limiting their output.

Re: How many months with no Rai would get you worried?
I wouldn't worry about 'Rai never returning' or having his own book again. Valiant are only putting a limited number of titles out per month and they'll simply wait until the 'right' story next comes along featuring Rai, and then he'll be right back out there on the comic shop shelves again.
There's so much left to tell with this character that I'm certain that the chance of it never returning is absolutely 0%.
