If you end up reading the Shadowman by Ennis and Wood TPB, I'd be curious to read your thoughts as well.

I will definitely be getting around to it eventually!Zhuge1 wrote:If you end up reading the Shadowman by Ennis and Wood TPB, I'd be curious to read your thoughts as well.
I do want to read that and the original Quantum and Woody. Just a matter of time and money.

I'll say this for it - the artwork is a real treat. I'm a fan of Adam Gorhams work.kinggirlfriend wrote:Alright, Ferg, I ordered a copy of DEAD DROP tpb. It was 5 bucks shipped. I'll let you know how it goes down.

I like his artwork too, that was the tipping point that made me say ok.grendeljd wrote:I'll say this for it - the artwork is a real treat. y'all have created suspense here. It's like when someone makes a weird concoction... a smoothie of whatever was in the fridge that is about to go bad... and you hand it to a friend and say, 'try this...'
I mean they're probably going to spit it back out, but what if... what if they like it... then you're a master of the culinary arts!
I did enjoy Dead Drop, but came in with low expectations--and all the complaints about the characters being off are correct. Would I have a second sip... nope.

Re: Should I read these next ....
I'll just echo others here and say that Chris Priest's Quantum & Woody was really clever and funny. The beginning of Priest's Marvel Knights Black Panther had some of that same humor. I was pleasantly surprised by the first couple of issues of the new Q&W but it didn't have the wit of Priest's run.
It's been years since I read Ennis' Shadowman and I think I only ever got the first 4 issues which was a complete story arc as I recall but I really enjoyed it at the time. It's, obviously, very different from the VH1 Shadowman. This kind of makes me want to check it out again.

DEAD DROP was stupid.
The art was ok and the third issue was ok but that was about it. The rest of it was dumb. The Archer issue was annoying. Even at five bucks for a new trade I feel a little disappointed. Oh well.

wait... try one more sip... are you sure? Cause I used all the old rotisserie chicken mixed with the fermenting apples and the compositing tomatoes... and i did scrape the green bits off the swiss cheese before i put it in the blender...
Stupid. Pointless.
I feel like the higher ups at VEI paid for something and went... well, we paid for it... and then published it. One of the few times I've looked at them like they put something out because they said they would vs. putting something out because they had something to put out...

I was warned, BY EVERYONE, so it's hard to complain. But yeah, what were they thinking?
The covers were nice. The first issue had a great energy and sense of urgency but the story was so dumb it's all quickly undermined. And that Archer issue?! yeeesh. The Beta-Max issue is actually nice and the first half of #4 was ok until it got to the rushed nonsensical ending and the Polaroid gag.
The last three issues of Unity are better. End Times is better. Ming Doyle's Q&W issues are better.
A rare misfire from Valiant. I'm glad I saved it for the end.

Right, why was he running? Why was he pulled out of the mission in favor of Archer? How was the mission compromised? Why didn't I listen to everyone who said this stinks?

Re: Should I read these next ....
This reminds me of a period of time where my dad was making smoothies out of leftovers in the fridge - mostly fruits and veggies. Then one day he decided to add a piece of cold pizza to the mix. Afterwards, he said that was taking it a little too far but he still drank it.WrathOfArmstrong wrote:wait... try one more sip... are you sure?
