Awesome Toy Shop Haul!

Post by Funcha »

So I happened to have some extra time this past Saturday and dropped by a local collectible toy shop that dabbles in comics. Mostly low-grade stuff that goes into dollar bins. They had just bought a collection and I immediately noticed two full long boxes with a Valiant sticker on them. The owner hadn't even sorted them yet. Was given permission to take a look at what they had. LOTS of the usual post-Unity stuff but found some amazing finds. After pulling some of the key issues and asking what the price would be I was told $1 each. Most of what I got looked absolutely untouched and CGC 9.8 candidates. So here's the noteables from my haul!

Magnus Robot Fighter 1 (With Coupon)
(One Without)

Magnus Robot Fighter 5 (With Coupon)
(One Without)

Magnus Robot Fighter 7 (With Coupon)

Solar: Man of the Atom 1 (Beautiful copy with the most vibrant colors I've ever seen)

Solar 3 (Again with the vibrant colors. Looks like someone cherry picked the best copy available)

Solar 5 (The first raw copy I've ever gotten that's a 9.8 candidate)

Solar 7, 11

Rai 0

Eternal Warrior 4, 5

X-O Manowar 1, 5, 6

Harbinger 7, 10, 11

Shadowman 1, 2, 3, 7, 8

Bloodshot 1 (4 copies), 6

Archer & Armstrong 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8

And for $2 each I got:
Sealed X-O Manowar: Retribution TPB
Solar Alpha/Omega TPB
Unity Saga Volume 1 - 3 (4 was missing from box)
Rai Collection TPB Sealed
Valiant Era TPB Sealed

Needless to say, I was pretty excited. I very rarely find deals this good anymore.

I had the 1,000,000th post on this board and all I got was this lousy custom ranking.

I collect mainly older VALIANT books so your find is awesome to me! I would of course be most excited for MRF 1 and Solar 1,3,5. Those are all classics. Solar 3 is a beautiful cover.

I think there's still a limited window of opportunity to make some great old school Valiant finds. Once production (hopefully) gets underway on the Sony Valiant films, I think we're going to see the prices on pre-Unity issues go way up again.

Really awesome find, sir!

I am still missing a copy of Solar #3 but I am not into paying the current higher prices that book is going for to get it back [I saw a copy at a LCS priced at $175!!]. I had them all back in the day but sold off my early Solar & Harbinger comics around the time the market started to cool in the late 90's. I currently have most of them back in my collection, but still missing the odd pricey one.

$175?! Those Solar 3's go for about $30ish on ebay raw. Haven't heard anything about prices that high on non-graded copies.

Yeah, I think when I get around to re-acquiring a copy, it won't be *that* one!
