I didn't realize there would be a "mirror" in the bottom right corner of the comic book. This will be the only Valiant comic book (that I know of) which you see yourself in the cover! Catchy.

Any idea of what artists Valiant is bringing out? Would be great to get FVL, and others who are out of town.TheeBaldMoose wrote:As do I, and it hits a day before ECCC!nycjadie wrote:Love it.

Honestly, that’s the dumbest gimmick I’ve seen in a while. The mirror isn’t even incorporated in a way that fits into the cover art. It’s just your face in the corner under Harada’s hand. Could have been executed much better.

Re: Life & Death of Toyo Harada #1 (Glass Mirror Variant)
Looks neat and I will pick one up.
The glass covers have been considerably cheaper to pick up then the 1:250 metal covers.
Is that because CGC won't grade them?
or
Is there fatigue over 1:250 covers?
or
Given the return policies are there just that many more covers out there?
Given I prefer to buy more valuable modern books slabbed I though I might pass on the glass covers once it became apparent that CGC would not grade them but I was able to pick both the Livewire and Bloodshot glass covers up for $100 each (different sellers) so I broke down and bought them. There seems to be a lot of supply available and prices dropped quite quickly from the $250-300 sellers were initially asking

Re: Life & Death of Toyo Harada #1 (Glass Mirror Variant)
That happened with the metal covers as well. X-O was far more limited, so it kept value. I bought extra copies of the metal covers at $100-125, save X-O. I haven't scored extra glass covers yet, but I haven't worked that hard at it.
Really glad I picked up that extra Shadowman metal cover. Stephen Segovia will be here next month, announced yesterday, and I'm hoping he'll do an SS signature for me.

Re: Life & Death of Toyo Harada #1 (Glass Mirror Variant)
I'm guessing for a lot of people it's the fact CGC won't grade them. I think most comic collectors are somewhat regimented or anal in how they collect, so having one collectible book ungraded might be a hassle or a reason not to be a completist.magnus20009 wrote:Looks neat and I will pick one up.

Re: Life & Death of Toyo Harada #1 (Glass Mirror Variant)
I'm sure it's multiple reasons. Remember, with the metals, it was limited to 1 per store, which made them much more rare to find/buy (cost goes up). Now, if you buy 750 of the #1 (with the return policy, much like the metals), a store can get three, which drives the price and rarity down. Many of these stores still are trying to charge the price of the metals, roughly $250-$275, and they just aren't selling. Those that have, have been around the $100-$150 range.apacseller wrote:I'm guessing for a lot of people it's the fact CGC won't grade them. Now, factor in We've had two glass cover stories so far. Bloodshot has been not so good, with the last book (#3) being the only one that wasn't massively flawed. Livewire has been hanging in there, but wasn't the book that we wanted. It wasn't a book that blew us out of the water. There hasn't been as big of a following as the metals. X-O, Bloodshot Salvation, Shadowman, Ninja-K all were/are solid, if not fantastic books that were better than the above. I'm sure that X-O #22, or whatever number we are on right now outsold Bloodshot #3, or was very close to doing that.
Thirdly, Valiant just isn't collectible anymore, or should I say this new approach isn't collectible. They've stopped doing any 1:50 after the third book, so those that used to collect based on the possibility of Valiant, have simply lost interest. With nothing interesting left to collect, those that flip have left Valiant for greener pastures. This has created even less of a desire for these glass covers.
Lastly, can't CGC them? CGC has come pretty close to choking the market dry, making it a single player again. CGC has all of the major Cons on contract being the single company for slabbing, many times CBCS has to set up shop OUTSIDE of the Con, and buy tickets (which is funny). Sadly, we all have noticed that even though CBCS has a good product, those that do slab with them have found that costs drop by 15-20% (depending on the book). Also, they're slower, which kills the enthusiasm regarding any product. Besides the demo, has anyone slabbed a glass with CBCS? If we can't see examples of CBCS and these glass covers, the impact is drastically reduced.
They (current Valiant) could go a long way, if they simply went back to 1 glass cover per store. Create a desire, and many of the above problems start to fix themselves. I don't think that the 1:250 idea has become fatigued or anything, the glass covers are nice.
Could you imagine, LADOTH only one glass per store, and I truly believe this will be a massive hit, as well as that cover being sexy, well it could have created the perfect storm. It won't be a perfect storm, and the price of these books will quickly settle down under $200

This is the first high ratio cover that I think looks good.
Bloodshot and livewire....looked like 3 year olds drew those. My god they are ugly,.just my 2 cents
