VH1 X-O Manowar #4 price?
I am confused by how much VH1 X-O Manowar #4 is going for on eBay. Does anybody know why? If it is first appearance of Jack Boniface I am completely confused, as it is only a cameo appearance, as this book is going for more than the first full appearance of Shadowman. Help!
Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics

The book has a few things going for it, but first Jack Boniface is the primary reason I think. That, the Harbinger kids appearance, and the fact that it's pre-Unity all combine to give it a bump. Personally I think Shadowman #1 is more important, because that's the book in which he becomes Shadowman, so that is legitimately the first appearance of Shadowman. (Think of it along the lines of Venom; the first appearance of Venom is when Eddie Brock and the symbiote combine, even if the symbiote had previously appeared.) VH1 did a lot of little teasers like this, where the news was out that a new character was coming, but they didn't tell anyone about the teaser appearance, so those books always did very well when they hit.caxiotis wrote:I am confused by how much VH1 X-O Manowar #4 is going for on eBay. Sometimes ASM #300 is “the” book; sometimes Hulk #181 is “the” book.
Sometimes Malibu Sun #13 and Gobbledygook #1 are “the” book(s).
The market decides such madness.
Personally, I consider X-O #4 to be “the” book in this case.

- I had the 1,000,000th post on this board and all I got was this lousy custom ranking.

I'm in camp Shadowman #1.
I have never understood the value placed on a cameo of Boniface. Did he even get any lines?

IF I remember correctly, he's not even named. He's just a guy on a stage playing the sax, and we only know that's it's him because Valiant said it was him.possumgrease wrote:I'm in camp Shadowman #1.

The ASM #300 example is interesting because the first appearance of venom was 298 (cameo) yet 300 is the book. Incredible Hulk 180 is the first appearance of Wolverine (cameo), yet Incredible Hulk 181 is the book.
X-O #4 first cameo of Jack Boniface is worth more currently than Shadowman 1. Hell it is currently worth more than X-O #1 the first appearance of X-O.
As somebody trying to buy an X-O #4, this is just bugging me

Print run may have a significance, a #4 is usually significantly less than a #1. Also maybe the first Harbinger X-Over.

I think X-O #4 had 40,000+ issues printed. While, Shadowman #1 had 50,000+ issues printed.
While these are considered "low" print runs for VH1 in the 90's.... They would be considered huge print numbers in today's Valiant comic marketplace. I guess every era has its own perspective. How times have changed.
