John Dixon appreciation
I recently came across a handful of issues of "The Menomonee Falls Gazette", which was a newspaper published in the 70's that reprinted a bunch of adventure strips.
The paper reprints John Dixon's long running adventure strip from Australia, 'Air Hawk and the Flying Doctors', so I'm finally able to read some of them.
Every time I go back the early Valiant books, I appreciate his inking more.
His style is not flashy and sometimes overpowers the pencils, but the way he balances black and white on a page gives it a solid, polished look.
He juxtaposes graceful pen lines and bold brush lines with great skill and confidence.
After BWS and Layton, I think Dixon was the next piece that gave the early Valiant universe such a solid and credible look.
Pencils on the last 3 pages by David Lapham, Bob Hall, and Don Perlin. Great pages Dan!
R.I.P. John!

He was my second favorite artist in OG valiant (BWS being #1). The only original art i own is a page he did in EW (which was my favorite comic).

Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?
