My first thought was Robert Venditti, but given his status with DC right now I’m not sure what his availability is.

Bob Layton? We know VEI establishes a relationship with him, but he hasn’t done much over the past few years in comics.

Other “Bobby”s who have worked with VEI? Roberto de la Tore is the only other one that comes to mind.
It's Rob Liefeld
If that's the case, I will take my original Rai #3, the one I bought "pre-hype" for $65, and burn it with a blowtorch. On a YT video.

if it is one copy per person, its a way to get noticed.
The wider comic book reader only hears about comics that they don't collect via hype on the market.
If something is low print run and hard to find ~ word very quickly.
hopefully leading to further sales and additional print runs etc.

On the wider market, any new book from a new publisher must be a hard sell. Wish them luck, and hope to read the books, and not pay too much to participate in the new venture in after market if not readily available when released.
I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

What's so "special" about 1 copy/person? I don't see it.

Doesn't the majority of comic book readers have some sort of limit anyway?

How many readers can even afford to buy multiple copies?

1 copy/person seems rather "normal" to me.

While I think Dino’s comment was just a joke, I think what people are suggesting is almost like direct sales rather than going through the retailer and including incentives to order additional copies. You want to read book X? You order it, you get a copy. No more hundreds or even thousands of unclaimed copies floating around (I see you in the corner, box of Turok #1s).

Not sure how that would work financially for a publisher. They’d probably have to charge full cover price rather than the 50% or higher discount they sell to retailers for. And they’d have terrible numbers to try to sell advertisers and investors on and less market penetration to reach new readers. Not to mention it would alienate retailers, specifically the LCS, which I don’t believe Dino and Co would ever do (even if it was in their best interests).

I love when people try something different. I'd love to see Bad Idea set up a direct order system. Let's see how it goes :thumb:

I never understood publishing all these hundreds of issues with full returnability business models. To me, that's a waste of trees and as an environmentalist, that *SQUEE*' sucks. Save the trees and set up an order-only business model. Show the industry how things can be done in new ways :thumb:

humm...
Heres an idea.
Have the direct order system to reduce trees, extra comics, etc.
But since people will be wanting to glance at one before they buy it (kinda like seeing it on the shelf and glancing thru it), have the first 5 pages on line for "glancing". You could see the art and part of the story and determine of you want to order it.
Then you could choose to purchase digital only or hard copy or both.
Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.

Most comics have a several page preview available on line these days. Especially Indy books. So that’s already out there.

What about something like digital release monthly, with the TPB collection released in print either right at the beginning or end of each arc? That way you satisfy the trade waiters and digital only crowd. The monthly floppy crowd could still purchase weekly but digitally or would have to buy the trade.

My thoughts are that since Atom is on board, and he just spent a good amount of time launching a company that, as I understand it, helps retailers and publishers with sales data, it seems unlikely that Bad Idea would be going with a distribution system that cuts out the retailer.

YES! I've been saying this as well, it totally makes sense. He owns it, and for him to "use it" from a Bad Idea standpoint, he would have to leave the company (which he has). He still owns the stock in it, so it only makes sense that they use this for distribution!

The concept is pretty simple, go online, type in the comic you are searching for, find the place that has the comic, distribute between LCS's, cut out having to purchase extra (wasted) comics. Helps for the comic shop that over purchases, and might have too many sitting in storage (wasted money), and it helps the LCS that doesn't buy enough, or is looking for one or two copies where they don't have to purchase from Diamond!

You forgot a key component in this.

Word spreads quickly (and collection desire increases) with low supply and hard to find only if there is demand. I can print 100 copies of something, and I wouldn't be able to sell it for $0.01, let alone have significant demand for it.

Word spreads quickly for low print run/hard to find only if demand is there. And demand can't be based purely on speculation about fan base - there has to be quality behind it.

From Dino today on Twitter....

https://twitter.com/dinesh_s/status/121 ... 30400?s=21" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And here’s the screenshot from Sam Huen of Dino’s laptop. Lower left corner has a file called “Spark (reboot)”—which is likely the “Bad Idea Spoiler”—but Dino is sneaky and it could refer to something else on the desktop that isn’t super clear.

Image

Also, a great sign of things to come from Bad Idea is the positive comments from other creators eager to work with the VEI team again. Just recently I’ve seen Christos Gage and B Clay Moore reply to posts from Dino and Lewis Larosa on twitter that they would want to be a part of Bad Idea.

So, possible titles include: ENIAC & Spark

We know ENIAC comes from Kindt (search for knowledge, root of knowledge), but what could Spark be about?

I'm starting to feel like we should get an announcement here real soon

I haven't seen any hashtag that mentions SHOOTER yet, but #TheCincinnatiKid does seem to be involved in some way. Months ago, Hooser sleuthed out that the naming rights belonged to Dinesh, and that it was applied for right before the first leaks.

Doesn't this sound like something ALL of the mentioned authors would/could write about, very Icarus Syndrome like
