Estimate Print run of Eniac 1 (of 4) #Badidea
Was going to put poll in Marvel Dc Independent section, however, their is a lot of discussion of #Bad idea in this General Valiant Discussion.
Feel free to move.
This is not speculation, this is just getting peoples opinion of new distribution and set number of stores from which the comic is made available.
I put in high numbers, as 100 orders from 100 stores is 10 000.
Writing that I put in more options, Had above 40000 , and more options and spacing.
Just thinking that limited distribution early on may bring lower numbers initially , until company becomes established.
May start another thread, where people guess and closest wins a price ( but I have no merchandise from Badidea to give away ~ maybe valiant related)
If you think this is in poor taste I can remove.
Just interested on your thoughts.

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

Re: Estimate Print run of Eniac 1 (of 4) #Badidea
I personally want the greatest success on this new venture.
But when I typed 100 stores selling 100 issues, that's only 10 000.
Do you think their is enough hype in the marketplace, for comic book readers who buy from local shop that is not on listed stores ~ to set up mail order account from another shop? If it was direct from #Badidea maybe. But getting all your books from one shop, and solely one issue via mailorder, setting it all up?
I hope to be wrong, and shops sell more. Maybe they will print more? and as word catches on they will distribute more of issue 1.
I just realised this pole is void, as the printing numbers will not be shown via Diamond. Hopefully #BadIdea will let us know.

This will be the first ever publication of #BadIdea.
It's probably going to be much more than just 100*100 copies.
People will also find creative ways to order more than just 1 copy.

Didn't I read somewhere that Bad Idea expects more retailers to be added in the future, and when the new retailers are added, they want to be able to offer them the full line of books? If so, the print run of ENIAC #1 (and all early Bad Idea books) would need to have lots of extras built in for future retailers.

Yes, that’s exactly what they said. There will be a nice stash of #1 books at #BadIdea that they’ll release to new retailers as come on board. Love this idea. Dinesh and team definitely have a plan on growing the reader base. I’m sure they had a lot of good learnings from Valiant.greg wrote:Didn't I read somewhere that Bad Idea expects more retailers to be added in the future, and when the new retailers are added, they want to be able to offer them the full line of books? In terms of sales I’m going to say it will not be in the top 300. Not sure what that necessitates these days, but less than 3k. Probably between 1k-2.5k at most. If it’s anywhere close to 5k that would be an unabashed success given their novel distribution method. Total print run could be higher so they have back stock.

With just 100 stores they won't sell many but I think that's the plan. They've said over and over they want to start small, sell out in a few stores and slowly grow bigger. Even with each store ordering 10 copies (which is a lot for a new indie publisher) they will only get to 1000 copies. My local store only ordered 2 copies of the new AWA book. They said they've had a lot more interest in bad idea but even 5 times the copies would only get to 10 copies. So I voted sub 4000
Re: Estimate Print run of Eniac 1 (of 4) #Badidea
100% agree with this. I'll be very actively looking to buy a few copies because I think this book will have very low supplyBugsySig wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 8:18:54 pm In terms of sales I’m going to say it will not be in the top 300. But they keep saying in very limited quantities. Even if they keep 5 copies for each store, or lets go crazy and say its 10 copies and they eventually grow to 100 more stores that's only 500-1000 extra copies. And by the time those hit stores my guess is the book will be in demand and those copies will fly off shelfs. which might be exactly what dinesh is planning foraj583 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 8:14:15 pmYes, that’s exactly what they said. Re: Estimate Print run of Eniac 1 (of 4) #Badidea
I know badidea don't want speculators to hoard the books.
But the best way to get noticed in the market ~ is if a book sky rockets in value.
So many comics on the market, just try to get noticed, no matter what the comic is ~ it is swamped with books trying to get noticed.
New Comic from a New publisher, with a hard to get issue 1.
What people notice, and read (I don't follow any comic websites) but read links from here ~ hot comics with raising prices get noticed, the next big thing.
So issues selling on secondary market, will draw more people in. And print runs will rise. I am sorry to say it, but rare comics gaining value bring people to buy the issue, or realise HEY, this book exsists ~ is it good? Shall I order a copy? Why all the hype?
Doesn't bother me the after market, as I will be buying my copy and reading it.

I expect at least 250-300 shops sign the contract and become Bad Idea partners

Votes still comming in, cool.
I personally said 7000.
Two months to go, wonder how many stores will participate.
Thinking more like 4000/5000 now if more ships are not added. Still hoping they hit 7 k

That's my guess. I picked 15k. They are using the "limited retailer" thing as a marketing stunt to cultivate grassroots interest, but there's a warehouse with cases of these things to help the economies of scale and to support a growth in readership.greg wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 9:33:36 am Didn't I read somewhere that Bad Idea expects more retailers to be added in the future, and when the new retailers are added, they want to be able to offer them the full line of books? They will also use overrun to hand out at cons or to put variant covers on.

I wonder? Has anyone's opinion changed.
What do you think the numbers will be.
For me its hard to say, as I read valiant ~ and through the board have knowledge of Eniac.
The wider comic book reading world, may have heard due to Hero trade prices, I wonder how wide the release of this has spread.

When this thread was started ENIAC #1 was the supposedly first ever publication from BAD IDEA. But then came COVID (actually, it had already been around for a while but everyone was still ignoring it a little before it became such a big thing) and then Dinesh had to throw that HERO TRADE out there to save the community. So, yes, your observation is spot on. It's not the first ever anymore. However, it's still the first ever that's been made available to everyone. Well, almost everyone.

Got to the LCS at 7:00 a.m. to snag the Eniac pin with one guy in front of me who got there 15 minutes earlier. Turns out it was a fellow board member! Congrats Jace! Well deserved for being a more dedicated fan.
