Is the VIP sneak peak the most undervalued Valiant book?

Post by syzhang28 »

Have been thinking about this today and here is the case in my head. This book is crazy important and crazy rare.

- It was never properly distributed. It was only sold I've read at one convention and by one dealer. Does anyone have info on who and when?
- Without this book there would have not been a VEI (no Mary Maria, Punk Mambo, Armor Hunters, Divinity ... so so much)
- Instead we may have got something like the Dark Horse Gold Key books or worse the Dynamite Gold Key books
- This book has a dozen original Jae Lee sketches using original Valiant names
- Most people who own a copy covet it and aren't looking to sell

What does everyone think?

This.

Plus it has nothing to do with any VH1 or VEI characters.

If you want info on the book here it is:

It was SDCC 2005 and there were several comic dealers selling it. I was one of the first people who found it and bought it. I called Dino right from the show floor and said "you need to come see this right now" he did and the VIP flegal fight was now on. Graham Cracker Comics and Comic Central out of Florida had a large amount of this print run also. I know I had bought several from them at that 2005 show.

I sold a few high grade mint copies a few years ago. There aren’t many in existence. They sold for over $100 back then. I thought they were overpriced when I sold them,

They are little more than a curiosity. I think the actual book is not interesting at all. It’s merely just a page in history of Valiant, and an unofficial one at that.

I liken it to getting one of those 1980s Cerebis 1 bootlegs. It’s virtually worthless to anyone but the most hardcore completiionist collector. Over time that Cerebus has gone down in value. Unless something significant changes that, I expect the same with this one.

I think this will end up closer to the early TMNT ashcans, the Maxx ashcans or error books with large enough print runs like Venom Lethal Protector. It feels like it's got low awareness but if that changes look out. Even now I can't find a copy under $100 if at all

Except the TMNT and Max’s ashcans actually had TMNT and Maxx in them. This has no one in them. Agree with NYCJadie only the most hardcore enthusiasts will care.

I bought several copies at Wizard World in Arlington, TX, 2008. I am pretty sure the seller was Graham Crackers Comics.

The price started out ridiculously high, like $50 each, and when I found them in 2008, I asked the guy how much and he said $6.

In order to be "the most undervalued Valiant book" the VIP Sneak Peak would have to first be a "Valiant book". It isn't.

It's a Nikey shoe.
It's a Ferraro car.
It's a Butterthumbs candy bar.
It's a hamburger from McDonney's.
It's a bottle of Shoulder & Heads shampoo.

Most importantly, it's not even a Sneak PEEK. It's a Sneak PEAK.

Even the title is a knock-off of something real.

Read?

It doesn't have any words.

Imagine black and white sketches of non-Valiant characters combined with Valiant titles. Scary goth girl on the cover is "Ninjak".
