These are cool. I have the OA for one of the Bloodshot covers. I’d probably end up getting that one!

Re: Valiant metal signs - new in June 2020
These look very neat and I might pick up one or two but I am a bit confused.
So most valiant comic books only sell 5,000 copies, including multiple covers, so let’s says 2,000 people buy them.
And they have over 100 posters that sell for $44 each. There must be some posters that will have no copies as I have to think these things are printed to order.

Playing around on the site I was correct. They are printed to order. You can chose between 3 sizes and whether you want the covers to be Matte or Gloss.

I am SO getting the two XO pieces I have original art of.
BTW fun story, I used to be an artist on displate with my photography, when they just started. They may still be there somewhere

Re: Valiant metal signs - new in June 2020
Keeping in mind those metal plates are printed to order they should have really let you choose whatever (regular) cover you want (maybe without any exclusive covers and without the high ratio incentives; 1:100+).
There's no Eternal Warrior solo, no Harada solo, no Bleeding Monk solo, no Bloodhound, no Bloodshot family (except the Analog Man), no Savage, no Imperium gang. No Sunlight. No Master Darque?!? No Alpha by Larosa. No goat eating a comic. No XO from Venditti's run. LOL. No Valiant logo only. No vintage logo either.
Other than the rather lackluster selection....good idea.
I get the black Shadowman one.
Are those metal plates good? Has anyone ever ordered one before? Star Wars?

Speaking of licenses, is all this legal?

Re: Valiant metal signs - new in June 2020
Displate is a big time company, been around for a long time and has a Marvel license, so I don't think it's illegal. Valiant probably has a shared license to distribute movie images and probably got permission from Boss Logic to use the image (or Sony did).

Re: Valiant metal signs - new in June 2020
Everyone can open an account, upload stuff, and "share and earn". In their copyrights policy Displate says they are "a community built upon respect for artists and their intellectual property rights as well as the intellectual property rights of third parties" and that they have zero tolerance but we all know what that means. Close to nothing. If they don't even know much about Valiant comics it's also quite difficult to know that these artworks could be someone else's.paradise wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 5:02:03 pm Displate is a big time company, been around for a long time and has a Marvel license, so I don't think it's illegal. Fact is, the ones I linked before were all uploaded by some random users (judging from their user names). BossLogic would certainly use his name and logo. I already sent him an email to let him know about this. I would want to order this but I wouldn't want someone to earn anything of it if that someone didn't have BossLogic's consent.

Well I only sent BossLogic an email about his artwork. I'm 100% sure the Diego Bernard one has been taken from DeviantArt; apparently, it happens a lot.

Re: Valiant metal signs - new in June 2020
Let's use the House of Mouse example for discussion...
If I draw the coolest version of Mickey Mouse ever, I don't get ANY rights to sell or reproduce my own artwork if Disney didn't give permission. Additionally, Disney would not have to get my permission to make my art their new logo, if they wanted. They own Mickey Mouse and all images which are clearly MIckey Mouse - to have them destroyed or multiplied in any way, period.
Unauthorized art created by fans (even if the fan is a professional artist) conveys NO rights to the artist if the character is copyrighted by someone else, correct?

Re: Valiant metal signs - new in June 2020
I was holding off commenting here but since it came up, I too have problems with Displate and IP. I"m not sure why big outfits like Blizzard and many others do business with them.
Actually, I take that back. I know exactly why. $$. The low trickle of bootlegged items that come out of Displate are not worth doing anything about... there is a good reason that Displate is in Eastern Europe... so the property owner's best option is to partner with them, charge them a license fee, and make the legal sales dwarf the illegal ones.
A company like VEI may have offered them a royalty-only deal, although with the Sony movie property now, maybe not.
So Displate toes the line. They sell both licensed and unlicensed material. From Poland.
