It certainly had moments...

There was never a strong art team on this book after Sean Chen left when the 1st 4 issues were done. Not one of the stronger acclaim relaunched titles. I did enjoy them bringing in other characters to help complement Donovan like Bravado but overall the story was very uneven. Operation Stormbreaker special was outstanding and underrated if you need to read an Acclaim XO that should be the one.

It was just okay. I echo the sentiment that it had its moments, but it was mostly just solid. I don't remember anything actually awful happening, but when it switches writers in the last few issues one of the supporting characters suddenly gets really horny.
Manga, comics, who cares? They're pretty much the same thing.

It's not about Aric. It's not about Shanhara. It's not about anything VH-1.

But it's actually one of the better Acclaim series except for the artwork. The story lines aren't bad at all.

As BTE said, the Operation Stormbreaker one-shot is great but keep in mind it mostly features Doctor Tomorrow and Turok. It's not about X-O Manowar but adds a little bit to the origin of the X-O Armor which isn't important to start reading X-O. It was published prior to the Doctor Tomorrow series but came out around X-O Manowar #7, 8, or 9. I wouldn't recommend reading it before that. Whatever happens in the one-shot will then have an impact in X-O Manowar #9-10 (or 10-11).

There's also a X-O Manowar #1 Fan Edition which is an entirely original story and some sort of prelude. It was shipped between the #1 and #2 IIRC.
