Completed my VH1 Collection

Post by David_Cody »

Well it took me a while, but I finally finished collecting and getting all the VH1 comics. I got all the Golds, all the standard comics. Got all the Unity, all of the Deathmate variants. Got everything but the Signature Series. Feels pretty good to get that done.

I should also note that my entire collection is NM+. The vast majority of my collection was hand-picked off the rack at my local Comic Shop back in the Chicago area.

Oh heck, yea. I had to buy a lot of Golds and Deathmate off of eBay.com. It took a few months, but I got 'er done. My last book was Eternal Warrior Gold #1 flat. I had already gotten the emobossed comic off of eBay and just needed that last comic. Course I had already bought the Chaos Effect Alpha Red a few months back. And to this day it's my favorite VH1 snag.

It took me a couple of years traveling throughout the Midwest for work and visiting dozens of comic book shops to fill my entire Valiant collection. Now they are bound into hardcover editions and much easier to enjoy. Well done, David! :thumb:

I got some 15 copies off of Sonic Dan and then just kept plugging away at eBay to get the remaining Golds, Deathmate, Unity, and the regular newstand additions. I only have two TPB additions to get. I need the Blue Bird Harbinger addtion and I need the uber-expensive Magnus/Predator TPB and then I am totally done. Minus the Signature Series. But those are so rare it's hard to count them.

They have bargain bins. Back in the day, given enough time you could build entire runs out of their bargain bins and they'd be in acceptable shape (as in most of us wouldn't turn our noses up at what you pulled out of them, condition wise).

But now there are two growing problems with the Graham Crackers Comics bargain bins:
-now and again one of the goofballs running any given store will do the "black marker line" on the bottom of the pages thing. And if you have the audacity to ask about that process you will literally get a reply like this: eyes open wider, head juts forward a bit from neck while sternly and obnoxiously stating repeatedly "they're FIFTY CEEENNNTTTSSS!" I swear to God that was the total sum explanation for that by one of their middle-aged-worker broheimers at a movie event they hosted. :kidaround:

-more and more there's that sort of damaged 2000's-era book in their bins. From that era where the paper manufacturing was awful and any book that was handled now looks like $#!(.

Don't get me wrong, their bins aren't a lost cause by any means but back in the day you never saw that. Ever. I think Jaimie Graham is slowly retiring and as he lets go more and more things are changing.

I will say this though - they've had a lot of pretty good silver age key inventory scattered cross their Northwest Suburb stores over the last year or so. Like... a noticeable increase in that kind of inventory.

On occasion it went to Graham Crackers in Saint Charles, IL because I really liked the manager of the LCS.

I think that's Dan. He is a nice guy. Took him years to warm up to me though. There were years I walked in there and he'd clam up like he thought I was going to reach over the counter and break him for some reason. But it's been years and repetition is king. I've never actually killed him so I think he's become desensitized to my presence.

But if you can tolerate that biased *SQUEE* for years like I have, then eventually he grows on you. He'll even smile and tell a small joke once in a while. He's got a full timer in there now for the last couple of years who is a pretty.... interesting guy. You should check out the store!
