90’s Comics and page ‘yellowing’?
Picked up some Valiant books from the 90’s era, covers in great condition but interiors are off white, presumably due to not being stored very well.
My question is how much does this effect the grading of a book? Let’s imagine a book was 9.6 based on the cover but the interior pages were off white due to age, how much would that impact the 9.6 grade?

Most grading sites and graders would put a book with off-white pages (meaning cream to tan in color) in the VF (8.0) range. Brown pages (tan to brown in color) in the FN (6.0) range.
Someone with specific CGC experience can answer what that place would do, but the above is what any reasonable comic collector would expect on a raw book.

While CGC has a separate designations for page quality and grade, I believe there is a point at which the page quality is a factor in the grade. The Overstreet grading guide lays out guidelines for this, and CGC appears to have taken their model from Overstreet. So I don't think there can exist a 9.8 with Tan pages. A 9.8 with off-white pages, probably.

Interesting. A lot of Valiant books from the 90’s seem to have off white pages. In ‘old speak ‘ I’d have assumed that VFN was the grade as SwiftMann said in his post. I don’t know much about CGC grades so even a 9.6 is surprisingly high (obviously that assumes the cover is in great condition).ckb wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 11:45:07 am While CGC has a separate designations for page quality and grade, I believe there is a point at which the page quality is a factor in the grade. Thanks for the reply

If the CGC data API records and gives access to page quality we could ask Greg to run the numbers on this. Books from 1991-1993 with page quality not WHITE and grade >= 9.8.
