lol All I'm saying is the amount of work that would go into actually counterfeiting comics would never be worth the effort and certainly would have been spotted by now if they existed in any significant numbers. I work for the worlds largest printer and yes we print some of the most sought after collectibles made and if our own customer were to bring us a previous printed part and asks us to replicate it from that printed piece instead of the original files it is very nearly impossible and that's using the same original equipment and personnel. It's far more likely that an unscrupulous printer or bad employee took overages and tried to pawn them off. And yes people are arrested for this type of illegal activity more than you would think.

This was my first thought when I started reading this thread. At some point in time maybe someone back doored some overages. This has unfortunately happened many times before with collectibles - there have been some scandals in the world of sports cards concerning this for example. Backdooring overages is a far more common than trying to make counterfeits.

I dunno. The government once tried to fight nutria overpopulation with a campaign encouraging Cajuns to eat them and not even the Cajuns would eat a nutria. There are probably theoretical limits to the Florida diet too.

I am not sure why I am not bothered by eating rabbits and squirrels but am bothered about rats and nutrias. Maybe it is how they live? Rabbits and squirrels don’t tend to live in filth, but then I like pork and catfish... who can tell, really.

As others have said actually counterfeiting books is exceptionally difficult. However, overprinting isn't. My guess is that is what Shooter is likely referring to and it is fairly common. Most printers print an overage to replace damaged books. It would not surprise me to find out some of these made it out the back door and into the market. But these books would likely be indistinguishable from the regular print run. It's not really accurate to call them counterfeits as they would have been printed on the same press and likely at the same time.

I agree. This is the most likely way this has some grain of truth. These are "unauthorized later printings" or "theft of an authorized printing", not counterfeits. They would be indistinguishable from the authorized printing and increase the print run.
