Thoughts on NINJAK #1 due on July 14, 2021?
Good morning,
Our site is work on the advance review on NINJAK #1.
Has anyone seen the 7-page preview? What are your opinions about how well Javier Pulido's art matches the content?
Thanks!

There is something very off with this preview. I did not disliked the more indie-looking artwork, but its certainly not what i expect to see in a Ninjak comic. Too bad there's no action so i could have a better idea of the artist's skills in that aspect, but even then, the dialogue felt off, just don't know what exactly is. Maybe its cheesy, but is it on purpose? I can't honestly tell.
I hope its better than it appears.

I went back and looked at the short 6 page or so Ninjak/XO story from XO 50, and I liked it much better today than I did when it came out. I originally felt the art was too jarring compared to what I was used to with valiant, but now I think the art is bit more interesting. That said, I am a bit skeptical that the art will be able to demonstrate the necessary feeling and emotions that are need to carry a full story over a more than 100 page story arc. We shall see.

I'm gonna give it a shot, but it's so far removed from what I know Ninjak to be that it's extremely off-putting.

After looking at the FCBD pages, i can honestly and safely say i'm not a fan. This type of artwork in superhero comics, i.e. cartoony and stylish instead of the usual DC and Marvel house styles... if these are still a thing) usually works for me when the artist is very tight with details and has a "just as good" sense of pace and dynamics of the genre. E.g. James Stokoe - a brilliant canadian artist whose style is truly non-superheroish - in the recent Batman annual #5 did an outstanding job and i really wished there were more of these weird art styles in mainstream superhero books.
I'll gladly leave a page here for comparison, not the art styles (to each his/her own, of freaking course), but how in my opinion Ninjak feels flat and moving at a snail's pace in that action stuff when compared to something like a random "actiony" page from James Stokoe- an artist with an also different take on superhero comics- in a similar type of book (both are american superhero comics).
Now i'm left thinking how cool would it be a Stokoe-drawn Ninjak book...
With this, i just want to point out i am all for "different artwork" on these types of books, its all good to me as long as the book feels like what it is, an action story, with lots of "excitement" in the pages. From what i see here in Ninjak, the excitement is all but gone, even if the art is indeed cool in places.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't have a problem with the linework, especially on a Jeff Parker penned book. But those colors! Painful.

Same. I’m pinning my hopes on the story being worth the moneyTheFerg714 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 24, 2021 2:06:39 am I'm gonna give it a shot, but it's so far removed from what I know Ninjak to be that it's extremely off-putting.

I actually tried to imagine some of the pages in B&W and i think they would look a lot better. I don't know if its my broken brain, but there's some Stan Sakai influence in this artwork
