New Valiant Rarity?
My latest acquisition. I’ve never seen another one, nor have I found so many minty copies.

Re: New Valiant Rarity?
I'm not sure what order they came in, but it's what I deem to be "pre-Valiant." Valiant produced 3 commercial books for KFC, Kraft Mac and Spaghettios. The Kraft Mac books had Spanish variants. Of course, there were also the Nintendo and WWF stuff as well.
Jim Shooter talked about these projects and more on his blog:
http://jimshooter.com/2012/02/made-to-order.html/
It's special as these books are incredibly hard to find period, let alone in high grade. I'm not sure if anyone has every posted a picture or is aware of the cardboard standee. I thought the books were mail away. They are almost always found beat up and stained. They are thin and very condition sensitive.
So this is a rare find for many different reasons!

Oh man I remember loving that F-Zero comic! Now I see why, it was a pre-Magnus Shooter-Nichols-Layton-Jayjay collaboration, what a team.nycjadie wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 12:45:26 pm I'm not sure what order they came in, but it's what I deem to be "pre-Valiant." Back to Spaghetti-O's, the more I look at that cover, I'm pretty convinced those are Ditko faces. Maybe even inked by Layton.

Steve, I am curious about the story from the person you bought it from. What part of the country? Clearly it was sent to retailers to put on a stack of canned goods as an incentive. But it certainly wasn't nationwide or we would be swimming in them.
Was it an eBay find? Great sleuthing regardless of the story.

I got it from a guy I’ve been buying all my sports cards and stuff from. He worked for Quaker in the late 80s and early 90s and I just bought it in a lot of other collectible stuff from those companies. The display case is awesome right? I couldn’t find another either and I’m pretty good about finding comps on things. I’m glad everything came well and I’ll be sure to leave ya some good feedback

Re: New Valiant Rarity?
The seller had a ton of other food company promos. This was one of them and it was not cheap, let me tell you. I'm surprised we've never seen one. Perhaps it was unreleased, if it was owned by an employee. Perhaps the cardboard was essentially used as a mailer and then the books given away. In any event, I've never seen one nor have I ever seen so many minty copies. They are usually beat to crap.nycjadie wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 10:34:13 amHere is what the seller said:ckb wrote: ↑Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:18:44 pm Steve, I am curious about the story from the person you bought it from. Re: New Valiant Rarity?
It makes a lot of sense these never made it to many (or any!) stores to be given out. Even if they had picked a region and sent them to like 100 retailers, I think we would have seen one or heard a tale of one at least. Do we have solid info on the mail-away angle? A redemption form for proof of purchases or something?nycjadie wrote: ↑Sun Aug 08, 2021 10:36:22 amThe seller had a ton of other food company promos. Re: New Valiant Rarity?
Congrats on the find! I saw it on eBay and considered it as an investment. Been looking for a non-thrashed copy of that book for years.
I believe it was Ernie Colón who did the artwork for it.

And from a zero feedback seller on eBay to boot.
