PAST PERFECT - UK Fanzine

Post by Sunlight on Snow »

In my never ending research about everything Valiant and foreign edition in particular (that time), I stumbled across a British fanzine called

PAST PERFECT -- Reviews from the Floor of 64.

There's nothing really in it about "Valiant Comics" to be honest, but a couple of covers featuring Vintage Magnus caught my attention. I could find little to no information about this fanzine except that 1 seller on eBay who turns out to be the main writer/publisher behind the magazine; Paul Ware.

PP #28 feat. a review of GK's Magnus Robot Fighter #1.
PP #45 feat. a review of GK's Magnus Robot Fighter #2 plus Magnus cover (from #2; front).
PP #70 feat. a review of GK's Magnus Robot Fighter #3 plus Magnus cover (from #4; back).
PP #71 feat. a review of GK's Magnus Robot Fighter #4.

There are no further Magnus reviews as Paul writes he's only reviewing the stories that have been reprinted in a "TV Tornado" magazine.

The reviews are usually 2 pages long. The fanzine itself is about digest-size and in full color (but not glossy; thick paper sheets though); about 30 pages long. Additional content and reviews are mostly about Marvel UK stuff (from Fantastic & Terrific). #28, for instance, also feat. a writer profile about Stan Lee.

If there's interest I can post scans of Paul's order list (also listing what's featured).

Copies can be ordered via email. No need to go through eBay.

In addition to these four issues I also ordered the following 2:

PP Special: Ian Fleming's James Bond 007
5 Bonds! 20 Films! 98 pages.
Pretty cool and handy if you don't want to re-watch the movies (and pretend there's no wikipedia).

PP Special starring CONAN the Barbarian
84 pages mostly devoted to Marvel's 26-issues series.
Needless to say why I got this one. #BWS

These are cool.
There are no further Magnus reviews as Paul writes he's only reviewing the stories that have been reprinted in a "TV Tornado" magazine.
Funny side-note, TV Tornado also wrote a few original Magnus stories.

There is always MORE!

The way the pages of the original stories are re-arranged is pure madness!
However, the annuals are still interesting:

1967 -> Original short story "The Planet Stealer"
1968 -> Original short story "Death to North Am"
1969 -> Original comic strip "Lodestone Tyrant" (I think it's original)
1970 -> Cover appearance only; bummer!
