ETERNAL WARRIOR: SCORCHED EARTH

Nice to see Gilad and Tama return. The original graphic novel format is new for them which is kind of interesting.
I don't get the need to run it on Kickstarter though.

The Kickstarter thing is bizarre, as is the format. It illustrates how few people they have buying the product. I'd love to see a new EW/Tama story, though.

No, it's once again someone here bringing politics into the middle of a comic book discussion for absolutely no reason with yet another dog whistle.

Honest question - what was the dog whistle? What politics have been brought into this thread? What did I miss?

This board is toxic, what with the tolerance of ideas.

To be honest Chiclo, you’d have to google ‘let’s go Brandon’ for the full story. But basically the media ‘mis-heard’ a crowd chant during a race car event…and those on the right jumped on it as a humorous reference.

Totally my fault, didn’t mean to offend Swiftmann, I withdraw my goofy remark.

At the risk of perpetuating this political discussion in a comic thread...

That's the most genteel possible explanation of the situation that someone could possibly come up with. The guy at the SF/LA game last night or the local dairy by me who have it on their front sign certainly aren't using it "as a humorous reference" as much as an effort to grow the divide.

Back on topic, the more I think about this KS with unproven talent, the more I wonder if DMG just stops traditional publishing and uses crowd sourcing to keep the IPs and copyrights alive.

They are also kickstarting a new game product. Two products in two months, I believe.

No costs released for the Kickstarter yet…what’s it likely to be, $25, $50, $75? With unknown creators whose willing to take a risk shelling out big bucks?

The artist mentioned 100 pages on one of his socials when I was looking him up.

As a Kickstarter, I'd think the $30-40 range for a print copy with an eventual retail (if there is one) of $20. At that range I'd go for it. Gambled on worse. They'll likely have a number of variant covers at the higher tiers, but meh.

Hmmm…if it was a VDitti, Dysart etc then I’d probably be in but with some unknowns and DMG’s record I’m not sure I want to take the risk.

My first reaction is to say that I have gambled on worse too, but when I really think about it, probably not.

I have two conic projects that after 7 and 8 years haven't delivered, so my bar is low.

To me croud funding comes across as they don't have faith in the book to sell through the traditional methods.

This is not a good look for a comic publisher and it makes Valiant look very minor league.

I signed up for the email announcements because I’m always in need of fun new bookmarks, but I’ll wait and see what the pledge tiers are before making any judgments. Kickstarter is used so often as a marketing tool I’m hesitant to use it as an indicator of being in the red. Though I would be unsurprised, sadly.

Fingers crossed it’s good.

I will check this out when the campaign goes live. Looks semi-promising from the previews in that article, and yet the output from Valiant these days has been far less than stellar overall, so I don’t have high hopes at this point. I just can’t trust that they’re going to make good stories by default anymore.

I do enjoy backing indie comic Kickstarter projects in general, but I feel that this isn’t a great look for Valiant to be doing it. And I say that knowing that many established companies use KS these days to pre-determine the viability in advance.
