I'm curious too -- hopefully it didn't involve the performance of unspeakable sex acts with a Valiant staffer.
On 2nd thought, maybe we should leave the man alone. He could be trying to suppress memories.
No sex was involved.
Just money.

The shelftalkers are nice. I'd like to get ahold of some of them.
I've never heard of the blank card Magnus 0... Thanks for sharing!
There are at least 2 other types of Shadowman sunglasses. They have the Shadowman stamp on the sides of them, but they're different styles of glasses.
I can't remember, where are the "Starting Over" pages from? Previews? ~Erskine

I once found this in an artists-for-hire catalog

I never made the connection between the art & that cover... The art looks so much better than the cover. Thanks for figuring that out.

Acclaim offered these thru previews; not sure of the exact month but I could look it up if you're still wondering. I think they also produced Master Darque phone cards...
OK, I went digging thru the dangerous confines of my basement and pulled out the ol' Previews. From the Acclaim sections:
Sept 1997 - Quantum & Woody 1-4 covers phone card set -- $40.00 retail/700 sets made - 10 minute phone cards. Solicited thru Dynamic Forces
More stuff:
Dec 1997 - Darque Passages 1-4 covers phone card set -- $20.00 retail/500 sets made - 5 minute phone cards.
-- also an advertisement for never released Turok TPB
Jan 1998 - includes DF Signed Turok #1 listed at 500 sets not 250
-- also, an advertisement for never released Solar: MOTA TPB
Feb 1998 - includes DF Signed Goat event special limited to 500 - never produced ?
The Quantum & Woody cards are actually of 600. It shows on the backs of them The Darque cards were cancelled as was the Acclaim Valiant Heroes phone card (which I believe was solicited a couple/three months prior to these cards). They also cancelled the Acclaim Valiant Heroes poster. The poster was going to take all the VH2 #1 painted covers & put those images together on one poster. It would have been cool...
The Turok #1 DF book actually did come out as a 250 run. ~Erskine

I have the Q&W cards and have been looking a long time for the Darque cards. Do you know as FACT that they were never produced? It would be nice to scratch them from my list either way.Erskine71 wrote:

Depends on what you consider fact... I asked Fabien N. way back when I asked him about the X-O figure & he told me they were never released. Something about lack of interest compared with the Quantum & Woody cards. I suppose there could be some prototypes floating about, but from what I know they never were sold to the general public as were the Quantum & Woody... ~Erskine

Are your Q&W cards marked 'PROTOTYPE'? I had assumed that they were all that way and that the official ones were never released. Mine are marked that way so that is why I am asking about the Darque cards.Erskine71 wrote: Depends on what you consider fact... He was being paid by Upper Deck to promote their sports cards at the time. I imagine this was just a natural progression... Rumor has it he was at the special VIP dinner Upper Deck sponsored during the '93 Chicago Comic Con. Apparently Mr. Jackson got his very own wooden box set. ~Erskine

It's weird to see him being used to promote Valiant. I hope they didn't waste a lot of money on that idea, cause I can't see Reggie influencing comic card fans one way or the other into purchasing Valiant cards.Erskine71 wrote:Daniel Jackson wrote:Why was Reggie Jackson on a Valiant promo card?

He was one of the real world harbingers that were going to be featured on chase cards for the set. Dan & Magnus have some of the art for those cards.Daniel Jackson wrote:It's weird to see him being used to promote Valiant. The shelftalkers came from my LCS as did the Magnus 0;
great, now I have to find 2 other types of sunglasses I've seen 3 pairs now, all the same style. Do you have pics of other versions?
Starting Over was published in Previews from Aug 96 thru Feb 97. I know it's Acclaim, but I'm always surprised it doesn't get more attention. Overall, it's a 26 page original story that hasn't been reprinted. During a time when we don't have anything new to read from these characters, it might be worth hunting down

re:internal correspondence art
The inks are definitely Paul Atio's work.
BTW, I did the painting on the Armstrong Ale label. I think Jon Hartz or Kevin Van Hook has the original art.

That's good info, Andrew! Welcome to the board! I originally heard that Valiant planned on different beers over six years, and had a design for a custom six-pack holder also. Is it true or do you know?---SteveAndrew Wendel wrote:The inks are definitely Paul Atio's work.
