My Valiant CGCs
Just got notification on my most recent CGC submission. My Valiant haul includes:
VEI:
Summer of Valiant TPB – 9.6
X-O Manowar #5 (Zircher Ninjak variant cover) – 9.8
Voyager:
Harbinger #1 – 8.5 (I thought it was going to be 9.2; grader notes says there's a spine tear)
A&A #8 – 9.6 (Don't understand this; it looked like a sure 9.8 to me)
Shadowman #1 - 9.8
X-O Manowar #1 - 9.8
Acclaim
Quantum & Woody #1 (painted variant) – 9.6
I got a bunch of other books graded, including my first 9.9 (Mortal Kombat #1 hologram cover).
I was very disappointed that a few of my Copper Age books which I thought were sure 9.8s graded 9.6 or 9.4

Solid pulls never the less Ken.
Sorry about the lower grades on a few; I suspect that CGC tightened their grading standards this year in response to CBCS's consistent grading standards.

9.9! Sweet!
I think the Quantum & Woody is a real gem. I don't believe there are any 9.8s in this book. Is that correct?
The 9.6 Summer book is also a real gem.
Of course, Shadowman 1 and X-O 1 are big money. I'd hold on X-O 1 if you are selling.

Re: My Valiant CGCs
Great hauls! I'm jealous of the Summer of Valiant TPB. The one and only copy I could find came back a 9.0. I'm glad to have it either way.

Did you consider a pre-screen, or do you need a large submission to be eligible for that service?

Re: My Valiant CGCs
There are no 9.8s of the painted version, and only one of the regular version. In my mind, a 9.8 might be a huge money book down the road. The print run is super small, it's a first appearance, and these books were never widely considered the collectibles that Voyager first were.nycjadie wrote:9.9! Sweet!

I submitted a bunch more books at NYCC, including a regular Q&W #1 (maybe a 9.8, but I think a 9.6 for sure), a Harbinger #1 that has a shot at a 9.8, a potential 9.8 EW #1, and a few Ninjak (VEI) #1 and #4s (Roku first appearance and origin).

I don't know what's up with the A&A getting a 9.6; it seemed a sure 9.8 to me.

Re: My Valiant CGCs
I just received my very first slabbed comic, Valiant's Chaos Effect Omega Gold Edition, CGC graded (0129155008) 9.0 for $20.
My reasons for purchasing it were many fold. I wanted to actually take the step into the slabbed comic world. I wanted to own a gold edition. I wanted that book to be a Valiant Comic. I did not want to spend a ton of cash on such a first purchase.
Additionally, it gives me some insight on the grading process.
I'm actually excited about this purchase, but plan to have books from my own library slabbed in the future. I have NM copies of Rai #0 & Rai #1, Solar #10 1st print, Solar #1 & #3, Shadowman #8, X-O Manowar #1 ... well, folks here certainly get the idea. I used to be anti-slab, but I've come to realize that it is important to have high grade books protected and preserved ... collectible or not.
I've crossed the Rubicon on this issue, my next step is to purchase a membership so I can submit some of my gems.

Re: My Valiant CGCs
Welcome Chris! Yes, it is important to preserve these books in such a way that future generations will be able to enjoy them. Also, from a buying/selling market standpoint, it's a nightmare to shop online with 10,000 subjectively biased buyers/sellers who either cannot grade well, or factor their own hopes and dreams into a how they (unrealistically) assess a book's condition.OhioValiantNut wrote:I just received my very first slabbed comic, Valiant's Chaos Effect Omega Gold Edition, CGC graded (0129155008) 9.0 for $20.

Third part grading companies (CGC and CBCS) really are needed, and make financial dealings much easier and smooth.

Figured I'd bump this too, but more because I noticed an interesting hint at the future on the Q&W painted cover?

First appearance of " Sony Theatre" ... that's some rich irony there.kjjohanson wrote:Figured I'd bump this too, but more because I noticed an interesting hint at the future on the Q&W painted cover?

I have a CGC 9.6 blue label Q&W painted cover myself. Probably the first one graded that I submitted years ago.kjjohanson wrote:Figured I'd bump this too, but more because I noticed an interesting hint at the future on the Q&W painted cover?

Re: My Valiant CGCs
ok guys, talk me back from the ledge. Maybe I need a little advice.
Out of curiosity, and impatience, I have been stalking CGC for any notice regarding the books I submitted at ECCC. Well, today was fruitful, as I see that grades have popped up for 6 books I did not send to get pressed.
001 Bloodshot Reborn 10 Signature 9.8 Lemire
002 Ninjak 1 Gold Edition Signature 9.6 Kindt
003 Bloodshot Reborn 10 Signature 9.8 Lemire
004 Bloodshot Reborn 10 Signature 8.5 Lemire
005 Faith 1 Gold Edition Signature 9.4 SIGNED BY ATOM! FREEMAN, LAUREN HITZHUSEN, ANDY LIEGL, ALEX RAE & DINESH SHAMDASANI ON 3/4/17 Pere Perez & Marguerite
006 The Valiant 1 Signature 9.6 Lemire/Kindt
Kind of flipping out, as I know for damn sure when I turned in that book, there were no scuffs on it at all! Grader notes state "large scuff back cover", so this deduction HAS to be huge!! When I entrusted it to CGC, there was nothing like that!! Only problem, don't know which 1:50 it was.
I might add that it is possible that this 8.5 was CGC'ed prior at a 9.4
Any ideas/help here? These books were not pressed, and I know that Faith would probably pop at a 9.8 if pressed, remarks were multiple light fingerprints (my nephew's book)
