DBS’s Early 2018 Submissions

I have only a few books that I’m submitting at the moment due to a heavy work schedule and the need to buy a house this summer. That said, the following books are getting the CGC treatment: :thumb:

1x VH1 Harbinger #28
1x VH1 Harbinger #29
1x VH1 Harbinger #32
1x VEI Harbinger #3 (Zircher 1:20)
1x VEI Divinity #0 (Warped Tour Edition)
1x VEI Divinity #0 (Bagge 1:10)
1x VEI Divinity #0 (Kano 1:20)
1x Nintendo Comics System Sneak Preview #NN

All books appear to be very solid candidates (although the Sneak Preview is ALWAYS a gamble).

Good lord, I shipped these to CCS on Feb 8th, and they are already pressed, transferred to CGC, and graded! :o

Waiting for them to be shipped and the grades to be posted. :hope:

That's impressive. I submitted a VH1 Eternal Warrior Gold Flat on January 6th and it was just graded today.

Perhaps they were EXTRA motivated and fast today? Here is to hoping for a few 10’s!

Good luck! I am hoping for a 9.8 (hoping quick grading, means sloppy grading).

So somewhat happy, but not massively thrilled with all of these results. *SQUEE* happens I guess. Divinity #0 (Warped Tour Edition) and Harbinger #3 (Zircher 1:20) — which are hard to find — scored really well, as did Harbinger #32 which I had picked as the best of a stack of nearly 10 copies.

Harbinger #28 and #29 are books I’ll have to purchase again and re-submit; that 9.0 was off my radar with water damage I clearly missed.

The Divinity #0 1:10 and 1:20 variants will need the same to facilitate 9.8’s, but I’ll certainly hold onto the 9.6’s until then as they are the highest graded copies presently.

The Nintendo Comics System #NN is interesting. I had CCS Clean/Press; however, the grading notes stated “light fingerprints on cover” and some light spine stress. Spine stress makes sense; however, when you professionally clean a book, shouldn’t it NOT have fingerprints?!? :!:

1x VH1 Harbinger #28 ==> 9.6 :|
1x VH1 Harbinger #29 ==> 9.0 :?
1x VH1 Harbinger #32 ==> 9.8 :thumb:
1x VEI Harbinger #3 (Zircher 1:20) ==> 9.8 :cloud9:
1x VEI Divinity #0 (Warped Tour Edition) ==> 9.8 :cloud9:
1x VEI Divinity #0 (Bagge 1:10) ==> 9.6 :|
1x VEI Divinity #0 (Kano 1:20) ==> 9.6 :|
1x Nintendo Comics System Sneak Preview #NN ==> 9.4 :roll:

I'm picturing the kinds of fingerprints that lift some of the black (or whatever color) ink away from newsprint. They wouldn't go away with a cleaning... they need the ink put back, which would be restoration.

Looked at the grader’s notes again.

Says “left bottom of front cover”

What you are saying makes sense, and may be the case (yellow ink? Glossy cover?) will have to give a closer inspection when it arrives.

These two were a concern. It is not cheap or easy to obtain a raw copy of either book at all really, and even moreso in decent enough condition to submit. Fingers were crossed from start to end, and I am happy that these two graded well.

Full disclosure; I’ve been building the No. #1 V1 Harbinger Reguatry Set, and despite these grades, technically have achieved that goal as of today.

However, as you know all to well, these <9.8 books MUST be upgraded to satisfy certain OCD needs. Will have to start stockpiling submission candidates for #28 and #29; as well as the TPB (2nd Print).

Congrats especially on the Habinger 3 9.8!

DBS... Are you currently getting all of your books pressed when you send them to CGC? Or... Are you having some of them pressed by someone else at times and then submitting?

You are a pretty good authority on the VH1 Harbinger 1 book. I know that comic can get spine split easily because of the thin cover stock. Where would you have that book pressed?

Any different school of thought about handling pressing of VH1 comics vs. VEI comics?

Any general current advise on pressing would be helpful. Thanks.

Personally, I used CFP Comics to press my Harbinger 1 and it came out beautifully. A full on 9.8. I don’t think it was quite that high a grade before pressing. Probably a 9.4 or 9.6.

Sorry for the delay, I was CrAzY tied up with work these past two weeks.

I do not press everything; however, I DO press every VEI key (that I believe will benefit from a press) to ensure the highest possible degree of success. If I personally screen a book and see zero flaws, I submit as is and typically do quite well. If there are any correctable flaws, then I have the book(s) pressed without hesitation. My goal is to build high grade sets, so to me the extra cost is well worth it.

I do not like submitting 4-5 copies of a modern book before getting a 9.8, so paying a few extra bucks saves me a decent amount in comparison.

I have a few pressing options; one friend I have used for bulk submissions (I mail to him, he presses, then forwards to CGC); another, so far unused, contact through a colleague, and CCS.

For Harbinger #1, I used CCS. The reason was that in the event of damage (which did occur on several copies) they were willing to credit me fair market value for the damaged books.
