Creating a Complete CGC Pre-Unity Set

Post by red_rum »

I have been a Valiant addict since 1991 I'd say. All I love though is the Pre-Unity era. Right now I have roughly 3 complete pre-unity+unity sets, plus a few gems like the Diamond Unity TPBs. But rather than continuing to collect multiples, I was thinking about creating a complete pre-unity set -- all CGC 9.4 and above.

Has anyone done this yet? I picked up 4 NM copies of Unity 0 Red for a ten cents a piece several years ago. I am sending them, along with some other less valuable test cases, to CGC to be graded. I am planning to sell off some of the duplicates to finance my acquisition of the more pedestrian titles.

I read in G. Holland's interview today that he seems to be heading in this direction, and I just wanted to hear the board's thoughts.

red_rum,

Welcome to the boards!

I am the "G. Holland" from the article, so let me give you a little tour.
The main website of course is http://www.valiantcomics.com

A couple of pages that you might be interested in
related to the CGC graded Valiant books...
CGC Census Counts for Valiant books:
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/valiantcgc.asp
Sales of CGC Valiant books:

To date, I don't know of anyone who has completed a
CGC graded pre-Unity set. It is possible that the dealers who
have submitted the most Valiant books to CGC could have kept
at least one copy of the books for their personal collections,
but I have not heard of (or seen) anyone with a complete set.

It does sound like fun, though, doesn't it? :)
