My Latest CGC Submission

This was a big one for me. Submitting 20 very high grade Valiant issues I've collected in the wild the last few years. Sending them to Joey at CFP Comics first for a full press to iron out any minor flaws. To my eye, most are already 9.6 if not 9.8 candidates with some having the most minor little non-color breaking spine stresses. But just in case, I'm not taking any chances with these. I'm also having him prescreen everything for 9.6 (except for Harbinger 1 at 9.4) This submission includes:

Solar: Man of the Atom 3 (5 copies)
Solar: Man of the Atom 10 (3 copies. Tough to say on these ones. One looks like a true 9.8 contender. The other two, definite 9.6 possibilities.)
Magnus Robot Fighter 5 (3 copies. One with a top left dent that looks to be completely pressable)
Eternal Warrior 4 (2 copies)
Rai 0 (2 copies--1 may be glossy but I'm not able to definitively tell the difference between versions at this point)
X-O Manowar 1 (2 copies)
Harbinger 0 Pink (A tough one because there's one minor dent near the top left that may or may not be pressable. Besides that, pretty great.)
Harbinger 1 (With coupon of course)
Shadowman 1

The top copy of each will be a keeper. The others will be either sold or traded. Super excited to get these back in probably about 5 - 6 months.

I made it past CFP’s prescreen so I should be looking at 9.6s at the very least!

My grades are in!

All three copies of Solar 10 are 9.6.
2 copies of Magnus 5 are 9.8. One a 9.6.
Eternal Warrior 4. One a 9.8. The other an 8.5 (says light multiple crease right top back cover so I may need to discuss with the presser)
All five copies of Solar 3 are 9.8.
Rai 0 Matte a 9.6
Rai 0 GLOSSY a 9.8. Super excited about this one.
X-O 1 a 9.8 and a 9.6.
Shadowman 1 a 9.8
Harbinger 0 a 9.8
And for the grand finale....
Harbinger 1 9.8!!

I may be offering a few of these on the board after I receive so let me know if there's anything you may be interested in.

I’d like to mention that CFP Comics did a fabulous job with the pressings. The Harbinger 0 little corner dent was completely gone after the pressing. It looks like the Eternal Warrior 4 crease on the 8.5 was a flaw that probably couldn’t be pressed out so not thinking that was poor workmanship.

The comics look great, but I’m pretty disappointed with the cases for the Solar 10s. Circular scratches and scuff marks all over the place. They just look bad close up. May see about getting those reholdered.

Do you find it is better to have CFP press your comics (instead of the company that presses if you send straight to CGC)? Is it local to you (Do you drop them off or mail?). I am assuming CFP presses and then sends to CGC for you? What do they charge for this?

I have some comics I want screened, pressed, and graded. However, I don't know if going direct to CGC is best or not. One of them is A Harbinger 1 and I am impressed that you got the 9.8. However, I know the spine splits easily probably making presses tricky.

Congrats on the submission! Way to go. I've found CGC to be in one of their "tigher grading" phases right now (at least one Silver Age), so I'm glad you scored some nice 9.8s! One of my Harbinger #1s recently came back a 9.6....sooooo close! But that is a tricky book and I'm happy it was split during pressing, so I'll take it!

bravo!
