To Slab or not to Slab, that is the question
Believe it or not I am down to one box from selling my CGC VH1 master set. It took awhile but it's pretty much done.
I am left with a couple short boxes of books I have put aside to be slabbed. The market is generally soft right now on non-keys. I have subbed 2 or 3 invoices over the last 6 months and have generally sold everything but my observation is that it is getting more difficult. I am not confident enough in the market to just send everything in. The most I would ask for on the majority of these is $45 ppd, and $35 ppd is the bottom but barely worth it.
I will not hold anyone to anything they post here, of course, but I am asking if anything in the below list might be something that you need to fill a run or would just like to have. And I am just asking for general advice on the stupidity/sanity of slabbing Acclaim commons right now. Anyone REALLY want that full run of Trinity Angels in 9.8? Thanks for your thoughts! Maybe I can see my way clear to send in another 25.

Slab, baby slab... slab them hard!
I’d be in the market for any X-Os I don’t already have;
https://comics.www.collectors-society.c ... tID=102582
I’m actually trying to have a full run of the X-O acclaim series 9.8.

Re: To Slab or not to Slab, that is the question
Chris - From VH1, I'd love:
Captain Johner 1
Magnus 31, 43-44, 50, 54
Secret Weapons 6
I still don't have access to my collection, so I can't tell you for sure on the VEI books, but there are definitely some there as well.
However, I don't see a huge value in slabbing these for sale. The market is soft, as you say, and I just don't see it getting better. In fact, I think the value on these things will go down. Valiant is not publishing and that doesn't appear likely to change for some time. The economy is in the *SQUEE*. There are more slabs than ever on eBay, at least for Valiant, nearly all with ridiculous prices (the $600 for a Shadowman 1 SS by Shooter that I saw this morning literally made me laugh out loud).
The only people who are going to want these are a few of us nutters, most of whom check here at least semi-regularly. I'd be happy to take the raws!

Chris:
If it is on my list (which I always keep up to date)
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=51668
I am buying (well except from that guy on eBay who tries to charge $100-$175 per issue for commons).

Re: To Slab or not to Slab, that is the question
I keep an eye on Ebay for turok son of stone #1 four colors 956 or what ever the number is.
Before covid there was maybe 1 maybe 2 every few months. May june and july had the most issues for sale for that title ever since ive been watching it.
From what I can gather is alot of people are selling off their beloved comics. And people are trying to get what its worth but there is so much for sale. I just dont see this ending well for the industry.

Re: To Slab or not to Slab, that is the question
That is really interesting. I have noticed really soft prices lately after some record breakers. And there are more listings than ever. However, the vast majority are ridiculous prices. I feel like it's going to be a good time to buy, and I'm in, even if the graying of the hobby ends up making these little tombs (a phrase someone local here uses) worthless.nonplayer wrote: ↑Tue Sep 08, 2020 1:55:14 pm I keep an eye on Ebay for turok son of stone #1 four colors 956 or what ever the number is.

The main theme of today's newsletter is going to be about the very rapid spike in demand that we are experiencing for darn near every single comics trade paperback, comics-related hardback, and graphic novel ever printed. Simply put, prices are rising rapidly for graphic storytelling of all kinds right now, as supplies are getting very tight on many titles in the secondary market, while the publishers are just not willing to go back to press on any titles but the top-10 all-time best sellers. That reluctance to reprint their book titles is creating nationwide shortages, as new readership is growing, while supplies are static.
As regards Mile High Comics, my lifelong proclivities toward hoarding have left us sitting on a vast inventory of over 300,000 trade paperbacks, hardbacks, and graphic novels right now. That makes me truly happy. In all honesty, however, my greatest present concern is that we are going to see our hard-won amazing diversity of titles gradually diminish. That is why we have no discounts in effect on any of our in-stock books right now, and are going to be working all through the fall and winter to establish which ones are now totally out-of-print, and thus deserve to be bumped up in price, if only a little. Even with no discounts in place, our unit sales of books are running nearly double last year. That tells me quite a lot about what the future might hold.

He definitely has. And he should because it’s good for his business. Up to each of us to decide if we think there’s any truth to it.

I am always looking at instocktrades, and I have noticed a lot of collected editions are no longer in print. More than there has ever been in previous years. I wonder if it is just COVID, and publishers are not printing right now or if it is a large scale move toward digital.
Pull List: I only buy TPB's, HC's and Hellboy comics

Re: To Slab or not to Slab, that is the question
Just to close the loop here, I actually did a 25 book VH1 submission based on the wants here and got 23 back graded. There are a few not spoken for which I will put up for sale. Thanks to everyone for their input on Acclaim. I may try to do one more submission.
