CGC In House Private Signing Events?

Post by nycjadie »

Anyone tried one of these? There have been some great Valiant talent participating in CGC's events. I haven't had the time or access to the bulk of my collection to really participate. I wonder if anyone has any experience?

They are not cheap, but they do offer experiences to people who don't have access. For example, I see that Jim Lee has a signing and is offering full slabbed personalized sketches for $875. I find it humorous that they charge another $20 for pressing!

Mico Suayan has an event coming up. His signing fee is $60, with the yellow label. A remarque is $130.

I'd love to get a SS slab for some of the original covers I own of Mico's, but I'm not sure I have a high grade candidate for them.

The last time I did this was through a 3rd party. They did not treat my books well and I ended up with grades far lower than I expected. I'm pretty accurate with prescreening (and I cracked a slab for one, so I knew the grade) and they were pressed and still came out lower than I thought I left them. This experience made me feel a bit uneasy about the private signing and grading experiences when you aren't there.

Yes, I’ve done some…

Yeah, be careful… some will come back with a lower grade. They even state that on their website… say some covers have faded since originally slabbed.

Still… if you’re not so focused on the grade it’s a nice opportunity… especially if going after a famous artist like Jim Lee. Just think of the line / wait time at a con to get his signature.

I was thinking of submitting my Wildcats 1 gold and Hardcore 1 gold for the Jim Lee signature.

What a great idea. I have seen the Jim Lee lines, and I’m just not one to do it. It’s not my thing. You are right on about the convenience.

Yeah, I sent in a few for Mico Suayan. I would also like to see a LaRosa signing. A Braithwaite CGC signing would be nice as well. In addition, possibly Zircher.
