Valiant has always had a special place in memory for me...
Hello All,
I wanted to post here as I have been a member of this board since 2006 when I first considered starting collecting Valiant comics again, but my Valiant Story starts in 1993 with X-O #17.
I was only 11 when I bought this, but I had been collecting comics for a while, all batman, and Spiderman, X-men, the usual. i was getting bored of the regular super heroes, and read about Valiant in Wizard price guide, so I went and picked up what looked to me to be a guy with a cooler Iron man suit surrounded by a bunch of corpses
I was blown away with X-o, it had me gripped with that issue, and I got every issue up to 51 from that one. I also had many other Valiant titles, and as the Valiant titles grew, the Marvel and Dc, and even Dark horse and Image went away. I had a great time reading Bloodshot, Solar, Shadow Man and X-o, and had almost complete collections of those books and dabbled in almost all of the valiant comics at one point or another. The last one I bought was X-O 51 (I remember the cover) mostly because I was not all that into comics anymore, X-O was the last title I was still buying by then. I, like many others became lost in the massive crossovers and was sick of every issue from every company (not just Valiant) having a special cover that cost twice as much, or putting out 2 comics in a month (I remember being *SQUEE* about the 2 X-O 50's). It was too much for a kid to pay for so choices had to be made.
I remember selling all of my comics off in high school to others who were still collecting, many longboxes gone for a fraction of the money spent acquiring them. I didnt care at the time, but looking back many times over the years, I still wish I had them. The thing is though, it's really only the Valiant ones I still want.
I had thought several times about coming back to Valiant, which is why I joined here in 2006. It was so long ago, I don't even remember why I close the username nscc! I was going to start looking for the hardcover books on Ebay or Amazon and then remembered this site. I have since spent hours pouring through the database of all the comics looking at the covers and reliving great memories. It has made me want to support Valiant Entertainment, and I will be buying all the titles going forward, although I am leaning towards the TPBs as it is so nice having them on a bookshelf.
I found some posters here who are selling the hardcovers and was looking for some for the older TPB's as well. Now though, after seeing that many of the issues are not too expensive, I think I might just have to start buying ALL the comics again (but just for reading not for collecting, so no Variants, and CGC grading required, or so I have been telling myself).
I am getting excited about a hobby that I loved, so Thank you to the Creators/moderators/Posters of this forum and site as the last while on here lurking and the database has really brought me back to wanting to read all these great stories that stimulated my imagination as a kid.

Welcome! I'm not a collector either, but I buy all the books because of the excellent writing and art. Occasionally pick up a variant for the cover art, if I can find it (in a small market). BUT I really want a penguin...

Welcome. It shouldn't be too difficult to find the books you need. Just keep checking the Buy/Sell/Trade section and ebay once in a while. As far as the new stuff, check out DCBS or Mailorder Comics. They give pretty good discounts most of the time.

Mark,
Hah! Thats awesome, just like that horrid song states... "Its a small world after all... " ugh, now that's gonna rattle around in my brain for awhile.
I WISH I had a comic shop that close, the only ones near me are in Truro, so its about a 45-50 min drive each away, so even with expensive shipping for the valiant titles from DCBS, or Amazon or anywhere else, its still probably less expensive than my gas lol.
